Healing Hidden Trauma: How to Identify Demonic Door Points and Walk in Deliverance

Healing Hidden Trauma: How to Identify Demonic Door Points and Walk in Deliverance

Healing Hidden Trauma: How to Identify Demonic Door Points and Walk in Deliverance

Many Christians unknowingly carry unhealed emotional wounds from past trauma—wounds that open the door to demonic torment. These door points can go back to childhood, betrayal, abuse, rejection, or even ancestral trauma. Until these wounds are identified and healed, they continue to attract demonic manifestations such as fear, bitterness, depression, unworthiness, and shame.

This article will help you walk through biblical steps to uncover trauma, identify demonic door points, repent, renounce spirits, and renew your mind in Christ.

1. Identify the Source of Trauma

Begin by writing down the events or people who hurt you. Trauma doesn’t always come from individuals—it can be a church, school, or organization. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you remember.

List:

  • Who or what caused the trauma

  • What they did or said

  • How it made you feel emotionally (anger, sadness, fear, shame)

Symptoms of unresolved trauma:

  • Fear around certain people

  • Avoidance or desire for retaliation

  • Resentment, bitterness, and anger

  • Hatred or desire to gossip (murder with the tongue - James 3:6)

  • Sadness, shame, or feelings of being unworthy when reminded of the event

2. Recognize the Demonic Entry Point

Each trauma often opens a specific door in your soul. Abuse may cause fear, rejection, self-hatred, bitterness, and distrust. Demonic spirits attach to the emotions and behaviors caused by trauma.

Examples of entry points:

  • Fear of abandonment → leads to people-pleasing, control

  • Rejection → leads to bitterness, isolation, self-harm

  • Shame → leads to hiding, depression, identity issues

  • Anger → opens the door to wrath, violence, even murder (Ephesians 4:26-27)

The longer the trauma goes unresolved, the stronger the demonic hold becomes.

3. Identify Negative Coping Mechanisms (False Pathways to Peace)

Many Christians deal with trauma by developing sinful or destructive behaviors:

  • Isolation or fear of people (spirit of fear – 2 Timothy 1:7)

  • Overeating or anorexia

  • Workaholism (hiding pain through busyness)

  • Anger outbursts, intimidation

  • Addiction (alcohol, drugs, pornography)

  • Obsessive-compulsive habits

  • Emotional numbness or suicidal thoughts (spirit of death – John 10:10)

Ask the Lord to show you the false ways you've tried to manage pain instead of trusting Him for healing.

4. Check for Inner Vows and Judgments

An inner vow is a self-made promise to never be like someone or to always protect yourself. While it seems innocent, it is rooted in bitterness and pride.

Examples:

  • “I will never trust a man again.”

  • “I’ll never be like my parents.”

These vows can spiritually bind you and invite torment (Matthew 7:1-2). You must repent and break these judgments.

5. Recognize Emotional and Spiritual Manifestations

Unhealed trauma often surfaces as:

  • Anxiety attacks

  • Depression or uncontrollable crying

  • Nightmares or flashbacks

  • Intrusive thoughts or mental torment (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)

These are not just psychological—they can be spiritual symptoms of open demonic doors.

6. Close the Door with These Biblical Steps

A. Recognize and Confess the Sin

Even if you were the victim, sin can come in by how you responded (bitterness, retaliation, addiction). “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…” (1 John 1:9)

B. Take Responsibility

Stop blaming others. Acknowledge where you responded sinfully to trauma and ask God’s forgiveness.

C. Forgive

This is non-negotiable. Jesus said in Matthew 6:14-15 that if we don’t forgive others, we are not forgiven.

D. Renounce Demonic Spirits

Name and cast out the spirits that entered through trauma: fear, rejection, bitterness, unworthiness, shame, anger, self-hatred, etc. “In My name, they will cast out demons…” (Mark 16:17)

E. Break Inner Vows and Judgments

Say aloud:
“I repent for making a vow that I would never [repeat vow]. I break agreement with this vow and judgment, and I forgive [person’s name].”

F. Renew Your Mind with God’s Word

You are not what your trauma says you are—you are who God says you are! Replace lies with truth:

  • “I am loved” – Romans 8:38-39

  • “I am fearfully and wonderfully made” – Psalm 139:14

  • “I have the mind of Christ” – 1 Corinthians 2:16

7. Resist and Rebuild

Guard your soul. When triggers come, choose to respond in the Spirit, not the flesh. Be alert and prayerful. “Submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

8. Rejoice and Restore Others

Celebrate your freedom! Now that you've walked through healing, God can use you to lead others to the same freedom. “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others...” (2 Corinthians 1:4)

Final Word:

Deliverance from trauma is not just about relief—it’s about transformation through Jesus Christ. Don’t ignore emotional wounds—they are often the enemy’s open doors. Let the Holy Spirit lead you into truth, healing, and wholeness.

Taking Every Thought Captive

Taking Every Thought Captive - the biological/spiritual side and how it works together!

We all have heard that it takes 28 days to create a new habit or way of thinking. Why is that? Why does it take time to renew our minds to the Lord's truth about who we are in Christ? Isn't it time to get rid of those controlling toxic thoughts and emotions? The neurology behind holding every thought captive!

Renewing our minds requires a person to meditate on the Word of God with His truth. You might have memories of negative words spoken over you by your parents, peers, or people at work, and you believe the lie. To renew your mind to what God says is true about you is renewing the mind. How do you apply it? Let's say you are asked to do a project, and immediately you hear in your thought, "I might fail, or I'm not good enough, or I'm not smart enough". Does that voice in your head come from the Lord or from the enemy? Why would he do that? He knows you will and knows your history. He knows what your parents or peers said to you in the past and how it made you feel because you believed it. Now, you have a choice to accept the lie in your head or apply the word of God! That is renewing the mind in the circumstances by applying truth. When you do that by using the word of God against the lie, then you are actually creating neurons to grow by making new connections in your brain. That creates a permanent imprint in our brains or mind. When we believe a lie or react to fear, we develop neurons to grow negative or positive.

For example, if you were bit by a dog as a child, then every time you see a dog coming at you, you will immediately react in fear. You have a pathway to fear imprinted in your mind about dogs!

Well, what is happening is there is a term in neuroscience called Neuroplasticity, so neuron stands for your Neurons, and Plasticity stands for the growth and connection of those neurons. As we learn something, we integrate it into our being, increase our neuroplasticity, and create more connections. The more we do that, the stronger it gets. Like the example, the more we give into that fear, the more potent it becomes, and more pathways of fear are created. Every time a different fear issue occurs, another pathway connection is created to fear. We have these theta brain waves where a spirit of fear is constantly firing that pathway repeatedly. So, it continues to grow. 2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. So, we see that fear is a spirit.

That is why deliverance is essential if we have a stronghold to fear. People don't know that a person has to renew their mind. The difference between having deliverance and not having deliverance is as follows:

Then you go through deliverance and are freed from that spirit of fear, but you are still left with all these brain connections. And neurons want to stay alive just like everything else.

So, neuron needs three things to stay alive. It needs oxygen, sugar, and stimulation. Our thoughts is what stimulates the neurons. Now, you have an idea, and you’ve just been delivered, and you are driving down the road, and you think, Oh my god, I’m not going to make it on time, and all these horrible things will happen. Now, you create a change. You say no. I recognize that as fear, and I’m walking in the grace of God, and he will protect me. Now, I begin to grow a new pathway (neuroplasticity) that says I’m safe, god loves me, and god will protect me even through my mistakes. Christ walks with me. You will begin to actually grow these new pathways.

The old pathways - have you ever heard the term use it or lose it? That is a reality. These proteins have a half-life of 14 days, which means in 14 days, if you have 100 proteins, you will only be left with 50 proteins. In another 14 days you will be left with 25. What happens in 28 days is now down to 25 proteins, and those cells are beginning to degenerate. That is where people talk about breaking habits and taking 28 days. That may be why.

Researchers say that 87 percent of the illnesses that plague us today directly result from our thoughts. What we think affects us physically and emotionally.

A lot of times, people try to do this naturally through positive thinking or positive affirmations. I’m a wonderful person, I’m a happy person, etc. You got the people in the back car going – you are not satisfied, you are miserable. So basically every time you fire the happy pathway, you also fire the self-hatred pathway. It works with what we are doing here because I’m eliminating the backseat of people through deliverance. Now, I can apply what is in reality to renew my mind. I’m renewing my mind in God’s word. As I renew my mind in the truth, these old thoughts are degenerating and dying and going away.

Here is the kicker. There is another neurology term called trans neurodegeneration. What that means is that the neurons want to stay alive but, in essence, are dying. So, as it gets weaker and weaker, it begins to fire on its own. It just starts to go haywire. Now, all of a sudden, you are doing good in your walk and doing well. These things are beginning to lose their power and effect, and suddenly, they go bang, bang, bank gang, bang. You are sitting there right up against the wall. That is where you dig in, push through it, hold every thought captive, and keep God on your mind. If you give in at that point, what do they start doing? They get to grow again. We give them permission to grow again.

Then you open the theta brain wave door again and allow the spirits to enter again. This is the process through the biology of how our brain works when renewing the mind. That is actually what is happening in our brains.

Throughout my life, I developed this fear in the kitchen, in the car, etc, in all these different areas. So, what happens when you are going through your life and dealing with it? Then, guess what happens one day? Boom, fear, because suddenly you are back in a different area. That pathway still needs to be dealt with. That door must still be closed, and those neurons fire up. Suddenly, who knows what happens, you are in a restaurant and you hear an old song and you are eating the steak and you think “Oh man I ate a raw steak once and almost died.” You have not had that experience in a long time. You deal with the fear in that experience at that moment with God’s word. You’ve not heard of that experience in a long time, so fear tries to return, and you have to deal with the fear again. All the areas associated with fear in our walk of life begin to get cut off.

Isn't it time to remove hate, anxiety, anger, hostility, resentment, frustration, impatience, and irritation? All these produce toxic attitudes and create a chemical reaction in the body that can alter behavior. Negative emotions also release a toxic chemical, affecting every cell in your body. If they persist long enough, they can even affect the cell's nucleus and cause it to mutate, causing cancer to be produced in your body.

For example, A spirit of fear is the root of stress. Scriptures say, "God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind" (2 Tim. 1:7). Fear-based thinking blocks the flow of healthy chemicals and releases toxic chemicals that put you into stress. Isn't it time to stop the stress? A spirit of fear can be worrying about anything that consumes your mind. Isn't it time to get free from a spirit of fear and change the chemicals in your brain to have good health and good thoughts?

🛡️ What Are Demonic Curses & Why We Must Break Them

🛡️ What Are Demonic Curses & Why We Must Break Them

🔥 Introduction:

Many believers today suffer from unseen spiritual forces that manifest as sickness, emotional torment, or repeated failures—and often, the root is a curse. But what are curses, and how do they gain access to your life or bloodline?

Scripture warns us that sin, disobedience, and rebellion can bring about curses. These are not merely symbolic—they are spiritual consequences and can even travel through generations. But the good news is that through Jesus Christ, these curses can be broken!

💀 What Are Curses and Generational Curses?

A curse is a spiritual sentence of judgment caused by sin, rebellion, or partnership with darkness. It may result in torment, sickness, destruction, and generational patterns of behavior.

“And there shall be no more curse…” (Revelation 22:3) — In heaven, there will be no curse. But on earth, they still exist until broken.

Generational curses are iniquities passed down from parents or ancestors. The sins of forefathers can give legal rights to demonic spirits to harass descendants. These strongholds often manifest as patterns—divorce, addiction, mental illness, poverty, perversion, etc.

Proverbs 26:2 – “The curse causeless shall not come.”
This means curses must have a cause—usually sin, rebellion, or an open door in the family line.

🧠 The Root of Curses: Disobedience and Sin

Curses don’t randomly fall on people. They are often the result of walking outside of God’s protection due to unrepented sin or inherited iniquity.

Deuteronomy 27 and 28 give detailed lists of curses that fall upon those who do not obey God’s commands. These include:

  • Making and worshiping idols

  • Dishonoring parents

  • Sexual perversion (incest, adultery, bestiality)

  • Injustice toward widows and orphans

  • Moving property boundaries

  • Accepting bribes or shedding innocent blood

God takes these violations seriously. Under the Law, these brought death, exile, or destruction. Today, they still result in demonic torment if not renounced and repented of.

📖 Curses in Deuteronomy 28

Deuteronomy 28:15–68 lists physical, emotional, financial, and relational curses, including:

  • Sickness and disease

  • Mental torment and confusion

  • Barrenness and poverty

  • Loss, defeat, and despair

  • Enemies overpowering you

  • Generational suffering

These are not punishments, but consequences of separation from God. But through Jesus, there is a way out!

✝️ How Jesus Breaks the Curse

Jesus said in Matthew 5:17 that He came to fulfill the Law—not cancel it. The moral law still applies, and sin still brings consequences. However, through Jesus’ sacrifice, we are given the power to be free.

Galatians 3:13 – “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law…”

Through repentance and spiritual warfare, Christians can break free from these demonic assignments.

🛠️ How to Break a Curse or Generational Curse

1. Recognize the curse.
Look for repeated patterns in your life or family (addiction, sickness, poverty, divorce, mental illness, etc.).

2. Repent for personal and generational sin.
Acknowledge the sin and ask God’s forgiveness for your participation and your ancestors’.

3. Renounce the curse and the demon behind it.
Speak with authority in Jesus’ name and cancel the enemy’s right to your life.

4. Cast out demons.
Sometimes demonic spirits must be commanded to leave through deliverance.

5. Replace lies with truth.
Fill your heart with Scripture and walk in obedience to God’s Word.

🙏 Sample Curse-Breaking Prayer

“Father, I repent of all known and unknown sin, both personal and generational. I renounce any involvement with the occult, rebellion, or unclean spirits. In the name of Jesus Christ, I cancel every curse spoken over me or inherited by my bloodline. I command every demon attached to these curses to leave me now. I receive freedom by the blood of Jesus. Amen.”

🧠 Why Obedience Matters

James 4:7–8 says:

“Submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”

Deliverance isn’t just about casting out demons. It's about living free by walking in obedience, humility, and holiness.

🛡️ Spiritual Warfare: A Daily Battle

Ephesians 6:12 reminds us we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers. Curses are not superstition—they are real spiritual forces at work.

You must engage in Christian warfare daily:

  • Submit to God

  • Resist temptation

  • Pray and worship

  • Declare God’s Word

🩸 Victory Through Christ

Jesus has given us the tools and authority to break every curse. Deliverance is possible, but it requires repentance, renunciation, and spiritual discipline. If you suspect generational or personal curses, it may be time to seek prayer or deliverance ministry.

Sins of the Tongue - The World of Iniquity - tongue is a fire

Sins of the Tongue

Much can be said of a person's character by the way they use their tongue. "Speech is the index of the mind." Jesus said that "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh." (Mat. 12:34). According to Proverbs 18:21, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." In James 3:6, the Bible says that the tongue is "a fire, a world of iniquity", and James 3:8 calls the tongue a "deadly poison."

As a fool would carelessly play and prank with a loaded gun, so many Christians today do likewise with their deadly tongue. If only we could fully realize the untold damage we are doing to the body of Christ! If only we could see the full effect of the words we use!

Perhaps a closer look into the Bible can help. God made man, and God made man's tongue, so surely God should be qualified to comment on the subject. Indeed God should have some good counsel concerning the use and misuse of the human tongue. Let us consider some sins of the tongue as we find them revealed in God's word.

The Lying Tongue

Proverbs 25:18 says, "A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow." So a lying tongue is a misuse of a deadly weapon. It can be used to harm others near at hand (a maul), a few feet away (a sword), or a great distance away (an arrow). Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44), and God said that he hates a lying tongue (Pro. 6:17). All liars will have their part in the lake of fire, according to Revelation 21:8.

The Flattering Tongue

Flattery is also a sin of the tongue. The Bible speaks of flattery as a characteristic of the wicked, not the righteous: "For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulcher; they flatter with their tongue." (Psalm 5:9) Imagine the improvements which could be made in our nation if voters elected leaders on the basis of the RECORD rather than on the basis of the flattering speeches! Flattery is just a form of lying, and it has no place in the life of a Christian.

The Proud Tongue

The Bible also speaks of the proud tongue. Psalm 12:3-4 says, "The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things: Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?" The most annoying Christians in the world are those with proud tongues because a proud tongue usually comes with two closed ears! Proud-tongued Christians are generally so full of themselves that they learn very little from anyone else. A proud-tongued Christian will talk much of his knowledge and service but very little about the Lord.

In a church, a proud-tongued Christian will make all sorts of suggestions about how the church should function, yet his suggestions, if received, will burden everyone but himself. A proud-tongued Christian is hard to teach or reason with because he thinks he knows everything.

God hates a proud tongue. Allow the Holy Spirit to use your tongue in the way of humility and kindness because pride will only quench God's Spirit and damage your testimony.

The Overused Tongue

Some people sin by simply overusing their tongue. Ecclesiastes 5:3 says that "a fool's voice is known by multitude of words." People think they appear smart by much talking, but the Bible states just the opposite. Ecclesiastes 5:2 says, "Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few." God doesn't like a blabber mouth. You say, "Well, that's just the way I am!" Then REPENT! Confess your sin and repent. Stop justifying your wickedness and ask God to help you repent.

The Swift Tongue

Some people are guilty of speaking too swiftly when they really need to wait before saying anything. God's word says the following in Proverbs 18:13: "He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him." How many times have you had to "eat" your words because you spoke too swiftly? James 1:19 warns us to be swift to HEAR and SLOW to speak. Why do you suppose God gave us two ears but only one mouth?

The Backbiting Tongue

Proverbs 25:23 and Romans 1:30 make mention of a backbiting tongue. A backbiter is someone who uses their tongue against you when you aren't present, yet they will not face you with their charges when you are present. This is a cowardly backbiter who would rather stir up problems than solve problems.

A backbiter would much rather talk about the preacher than talk to the preacher. A backbiter would much rather talk ABOUT some weak Christian in the church than offer some words of encouragement to them. A backbiter is of no use to anyone, and no one has ever been strengthened or edified through backbiting. Beware of the backbiters, especially the ones who sow discord among brethren (Pro. 6:19)!

The Tale-Bearing Tongue

Proverbs 18:8 says, "The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly." Leviticus 19:16 says, "Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people. . ." Every Christian has the duty to deny his own desires and seek to edify other Christians (Rom. 14:19; Philip. 2:3). Talebearing runs wholly contrary to Christian edification. Talebearing (carrying and telling tales) spreads all sorts of hurtful information around, and Satan uses such information to hinder and tear down God's work. A victim of talebearing, according to Proverbs, is a "wounded" person. God forbid that a Christian should wound another Christian, but it does happen all the time! Some Christians live as though they think God has "called" them to bear tales on other Christians. Many "Christian" newsletters are dedicated to informing the body of Christ on the latest news about someone's ministry or personal life. There are many nice words and phrases used to justify such conduct, but the Bible word is TALEBEARING.

The Cursing Tongue

Some people, Christians included, have a nasty habit of using their tongue for cursing. Romans 3:13-14 says, "Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness." This passage deals strictly with unsaved people and their ungodly ways, yet there are a great many professing Christians who curse regularly. Friend, why would you want to identify yourself with someone whom God describes as being DEAD, DECEITFUL, and POISON?

"As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him. As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones."(Psalm 109:17-18) Many people curse because their life is miserable. They are unhappy so they make it known with their degenerate speech. This text says that God keeps them unhappy BECAUSE of their speech! God curses those who curse! Christian, don't expect God's blessings when your mouth is filled with cursing.

The Piercing Tongue

Another sinful tongue is the piercing tongue. Proverbs 12:18 speaks of this tongue by saying, "There is that speaketh like the piercing's of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health." Some people have a sharp piercing tongue which Satan uses to offend and insult others. The Bible commands Christians to have their speech dominated by GRACE (Col. 4:6), yet most churches have a few people who use their tongue like a sword to pierce their brethren in Christ.

It was Teddy Roosevelt who said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick," but the truth is that if you speak softly you won't need a big stick! Titus 2:8 commands us to use sound speech which cannot be condemned. Friend, do you use graceful speech which cannot be evil spoken of, or do you possess a piercing tongue? Every Christian's prayer should be, "Lord, make my words gracious and tender, for tomorrow I may have to eat them."

The Silent Tongue

A silent tongue is also a sinful tongue because we have been commanded to speak up and witness for the Lord Jesus Christ. In Acts 1:8, Jesus said, "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost comes upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." We, as Christians, must tell others about the saving grace of Jesus. To be silent about Christ is to sin against Christ. Jesus said, "Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels." (Mark 8:38) Christian friend, if you do not want to be ashamed of yourself when the Lord returns, then don't be ashamed of Jesus today. Pray for opportunities to speak up for your Saviour. Don't be found guilty of having a silent tongue.

"For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body." (James 3:2)

Symptoms of Unforgiveness

The Silent Destroyer: How Bitterness and Unforgiveness Open Doors to Mental Torment and Spiritual Bondage

Symptoms of Bitterness

Bitterness is a deeply rooted spiritual and emotional toxin. It often begins as a smoldering resentment—a response to being wounded or wronged. Left unchecked, bitterness can morph into judgment, cruelty, gossip, and even violence, whether through words or actions.

Bitter people tend to dwell on what was done to them, replaying offenses over and over in their minds. This behavior can manifest as chronic complaining, self-pity, passive-aggressive responses, or even physical violence. Bitterness is not just a feeling—it becomes a spiritual stronghold that gives the enemy legal access to torment the soul.

The Victim Mentality and Emotional Bondage

Many who struggle with bitterness live in a victim mindset. They rehearse their stories of hurt, seeking sympathy or validation rather than healing. This fosters a spirit of self-pity and can attract more rejection, keeping them in cycles of pain. Bitterness feeds on unforgiveness, creating an internal prison from which many cannot escape.

Bitterness doesn’t stay passive. It fuels long-term mismanagement of anger, frustration, and irritation, which eventually wears down mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Psychological research supports that unresolved anger and hostility are common roots of many mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, and paranoia.

When Bitterness Becomes Mental Torment

Bitterness distorts perception. People tormented by it may have exaggerated negative thoughts or irrational fears. Some become isolated, distrustful, or even paranoid. In deliverance ministry, we’ve seen that persistent unforgiveness often correlates with spirits of fear, suspicion, and mental torment.

For example, a woman with prophetic gifting began misreading others due to her unresolved bitterness. Her spiritual discernment was clouded by paranoia, leading to broken relationships and spiritual confusion. This is how the enemy uses bitterness to fracture the community, distort reality, and isolate believers.

Bitterness Within Families and Churches

The sting of bitterness often strikes hardest in families. Bitter individuals frequently lash out at those closest to them—siblings, spouses, or parents. Their wounds fester in silence or explode in rage. Sadly, these patterns often carry over into churches. A person who cannot forgive a family member may also hold grudges against fellow believers, leading to disconnection from the Body of Christ.

Some even withdraw completely, cutting themselves off from people out of fear of being hurt again. They may start “throwaway relationships” online, easily discarding others at the first sign of disagreement.

Bitterness Affects Your Walk with God

Bitterness and unforgiveness separate us from God. Scripture is clear:

“But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:15)

God cannot fellowship with unrepentant sin. When someone refuses to forgive, it hinders their prayers, blocks blessings, and removes divine protection.

Physical Manifestations of Bitterness

Bitterness often has physical consequences. It can lead to sleep problems, digestive issues, high blood pressure, and immune dysfunction. People may experience chest pains, migraines, or chronic fatigue rooted in internal stress and resentment.

In deliverance, we've ministered to many who harm themselves—cutting, burning, or sabotaging their own lives—because they’ve never dealt with the root of unforgiveness. When asked, nearly all admitted to harboring bitterness toward someone who wounded them in childhood.

Warning Signs of Bitterness

You may be dealing with bitterness if you:

  • Feel a “ping” in your heart when someone’s name is mentioned.

  • Rehearse the offense in your mind repeatedly.

  • Gossip or share the offense to gain attention or sympathy.

  • Get angry, cry, or withdraw when facing someone who hurt you.

  • Feel coldness or disgust around certain people or groups.

  • Constantly seek validation through retelling your pain.

How to Be Free from Bitterness

There is hope. Jesus came to free the captives (Luke 4:18), and bitterness is one of the chains He wants to break in your life.

1. Forgive from the Heart

Forgiveness is not a feeling—it’s a choice. It’s not excusing what was done, but choosing to release the debt.

2. Confess and Repent

Admit the sin of bitterness and ask God to cleanse your heart. Choose to walk in love and trust Him with justice.

3. Renounce the Spirit of Bitterness

In Jesus’ name, renounce the spirit of bitterness and any related spirits (anger, rejection, fear, gossip). Command them to leave.

4. Fill the Void with God's Presence

After deliverance, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with peace, love, and joy. Spend time in worship, Scripture, and prayer.

5. Get Help if You Need It

You don’t have to walk this out alone. Touch of God Ministries offers personal and group deliverance ministry to help you heal.
