Can a Christian have a demon?

Can a Christian have a demon?

Can a Christian have a demon?

A Christian can have a demon—but a demon cannot have a Christian. Someone once told me they disagreed that Christians could have demons. I asked them, “Can a Christian open the door to a demon?” They said yes. So I replied, “Then a Christian can have a demon.”

Demons are like flies or mosquitoes. If you open a window, they come in. You can post a sign that says, “Mosquitoes not welcome,” but they don’t read signs—they see an opening. Likewise, demonic spirits look for entry points. Just because a mosquito is in your house doesn’t mean it owns the house; the same applies to demons.

There are three main categories of open doors:

  1. Inheritance: Some demons are passed down through family bloodlines or can enter the womb if a child is rejected by their parents, often manifesting as a spirit of rejection.

  2. Intrusion: These occur through traumatic experiences—abuse, broken families, or emotional wounds—especially in childhood.

  3. Involvement: Habitual, unrepentant sin or engagement with the occult. This can include witchcraft, abortion, drugs, pornography, or possession of occult objects. Such practices invite demonic spirits to influence or control specific areas of a person’s life, though not necessarily the entire person.

1. Witchcraft and New Age

When we step into witchcraft or the occult, we’re stepping onto the enemy’s territory. When you step into Satan’s territory through sin or witchcraft, the devil will no longer just “bark” (tempt)—he will attack and torment.

If demons can’t stop someone from coming to Jesus, their next goal is to prevent them from growing in Him. People with unclean spirits often feel intense restlessness or resistance when pursuing God.

Think of Lazarus—he was resurrected but still bound in grave clothes. That’s what it’s like for someone who loves Jesus but is spiritually restricted. Or like Israel in Egypt: alive, chosen, but oppressed.

2. Restlessness around Spiritual Things

Sometimes, people experience a persistent struggle with sleep, particularly when trying to read Scripture or pray. Now, not every instance of tiredness is demonic—our bodies naturally need rest—but if you notice perpetual resistance to the things of the Spirit, even when your heart genuinely desires them, it may point to a spiritual issue rather than a physical one.

3. Hostility Toward Deliverance Ministry

One of the clear signs of demonic influence is hostility toward deliverance. In Scripture, we see that when Jesus entered the synagogue, a devout Jewish man suddenly became violent. It wasn’t the man himself—it was an unclean spirit reacting to the presence of Jesus.

Today, the same thing happens. During deliverance services, people sometimes feel nauseous, dizzy, or overwhelmed by a sudden urge to leave. Others may even hear voices telling them to run. When prayer begins, the person can become physically resistant or agitated. This reaction is not from the person’s will but from the spirit inside that fears exposure and expulsion. The closer the light gets, the more darkness resists.

4. Intrusive Thoughts or Voices

Another sign is the presence of intrusive thoughts or hearing voices within the mind. The enemy loves to plant thoughts that imitate our own internal voice. Scripture says that Satan placed thoughts into Judas’ heart before entering him, and Peter rebuked Ananias for allowing Satan to fill his heart with deceit.

Demons often manipulate a person’s thoughts from the inside. The difference between the flesh and a demon is this: the flesh doesn’t speak—demons do. A person may hear a distinct, intrusive voice in the mind that blasphemes, promotes self-harm, or encourages suicide. Temptation comes from the outside; torment speaks from within.

5. Surges of Violence or Self-Destructive Behavior

Sudden bursts of uncontrollable anger, violence, or self-harm can also reveal demonic activity. We see this with King Saul—during a family meal, he would suddenly throw a spear at his own son. The Bible says a distressing spirit came upon him.

I’ve ministered to people who, during violent episodes, acted in ways completely out of character—throwing objects, attacking teachers, or harming themselves—and afterward, they said, “I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t in control.” While we still hold people accountable for their choices, we must also recognize when something spiritual is taking the driver’s seat. Deliverance restores self-control—the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

6. Attacks During Sleep

The Bible says in Matthew 13: “While men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares.” The enemy loves to attack in the night, when our defenses are down. People often experience terrifying dreams—falling, being shot, chased, or attacked by animals. Others suffer recurring sexual dreams involving unseen partners, sometimes called incubus or succubus spirits.

Such dreams can lead to fatigue, marital problems, and even infertility. In deliverance sessions, demons have been known to claim a false spiritual marriage, calling themselves the “husband” or “wife” of the afflicted person. Once those spirits are expelled, peace, freedom, and physical restoration follow.

7. Heaviness, Fear, and Depression

The Bible calls it “a spirit of heaviness.” This isn’t ordinary sadness—it’s a spiritual weight that medicine and therapy can’t lift. Emotional exhaustion can often be treated by rest or counseling, but when heaviness is a spirit, only the Holy Spirit can remove it.

The same is true for fear. Scripture says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear.” This kind of fear is paralyzing and oppressive—it grips a person so tightly they can’t leave their house or function normally, even when everything seems fine externally. Deliverance replaces that spirit of fear with the peace of Christ.

8. Intense Desire for Defiled Things

Demons feed on defilement. Their appetite is for what is impure—pornography, profanity, violence, and perversion. The flesh desires sin, yes, but the difference is that the flesh can be disciplined; a demon cannot.

Jesus said to cut off the hand or pluck out the eye that causes sin. That means remove the trigger. But if the triggers are gone and the desire still burns uncontrollably, it’s not flesh—it’s a spirit. Flesh must be crucified; demons must be cast out.

9. Chronic Illnesses

The Bible reveals that evil spirits can sometimes be the cause behind physical sickness. Acts 10:38 says that Jesus “went about healing all who were oppressed by the devil.” Not every sickness has a demonic root, but many do.

I once ministered to a man with leukemia who had been given only a few years to live. He spent much of his savings on medical treatments and eventually came to a deliverance service—not for healing, but because he believed a demon was tormenting him. As we prayed, he began to vomit—thick saliva, blood, and other things left his body. Afterward, he felt peace and freedom.

When he returned to the doctor for his next round of treatment, tests showed no trace of leukemia. Six months later, the results remained clear. Today—seven years later—he’s still completely healed.

I’ve seen similar results in people with asthma, arthritis, tuberculosis, sleep apnea, and other chronic conditions. When the demon is removed, the sickness often leaves with it.

10. Paranormal Activity

Another clear indicator of demonic presence is unexplained supernatural activity—objects moving on their own, crosses falling from walls, strange voices, or shadowy figures appearing in your home.

When such disturbances occur repeatedly in one location, it may be a demon attached to that place. But if the same phenomena follow a person wherever they go, the problem isn’t the house—it’s the spirit influencing that individual.

These manifestations are warnings that something spiritual needs to be confronted.

Eight Common Open Doors to Demonic Influence

There are certain objects, habits, and symbols that invite demonic presence into our lives and homes. Many people unknowingly keep these things, not realizing they serve as open doors to oppression.

  1. Objects Tied to Native or Pagan Practices – Items such as pottery, jewelry, or dream catchers connected to spiritual traditions outside of Christ can attract demonic spirits. Dream catchers, for example, are not harmless decorations—they are spiritual traps that invite demonic influence.

  2. New Age Materials and Symbols – Books, tarot cards, crystals, or any item associated with channeling, astrology, or energy healing open doors to demonic power.

  3. Witchcraft Objects – Items like Ouija boards, spell books, and occult paraphernalia are direct invitations for demonic activity.

  4. Good Luck Charms and Crystals – Anything that promises protection, luck, or power outside of the Holy Spirit operates from an unholy source. There are only two kinds of power: God’s power and demonic power.

  5. Religious Idols or Statues – Statues or images from false religions may seem harmless, but Scripture shows that behind every idol there is a spirit that promotes deception.

  6. Games that Glorify Darkness – Certain video and tabletop games rooted in sorcery and demonic themes (like Dungeons & Dragons or Diablo) normalize witchcraft. You don’t fight demons with spells—you overcome them in real life through the name of Jesus.

  7. Movies and Music that Glorify Sin – Horror films, violent entertainment, and pornography are not just media—they’re gateways. The word entertainment begins with enter for a reason. Spirits can enter through what we watch and listen to.

  8. Objects or Gifts from Toxic Relationships – This one surprises many people. Letters, jewelry, or gifts from former partners—especially from ungodly or controlling relationships—can maintain unhealthy soul ties. These ties hold part of your heart in the past and hinder your future. When a relationship ends, cut off the spiritual connection by removing those objects.

Remember, soul ties are real and biblical. Scripture says Jonathan’s soul was knit to David’s, and that a husband and wife become one flesh. But ties with people who no longer walk in your destiny must be broken to restore spiritual freedom.

How to Get Free

If you recognize any of these ten signs in your life—or if you have objects or connections that could be open doors to demonic influence—God wants you free. He never intended His children to live under oppression.

Here are the five biblical steps to freedom:

  1. Recognize – Acknowledge that there is a problem. Denial gives demons permission to stay.

  2. Repent – Turn away from sin and place your full trust in Jesus Christ. Repent not only for your own sins but also for the sins of your ancestors who may have opened the door through occult practices or idol worship.

  3. Renounce – Verbally cut ties with all demonic connections. Renounce every form of witchcraft, soul tie, vow, or curse that has linked you to darkness.

  4. Remove – Remove by casting it out - and get rid of every object associated with sin, the occult, or unhealthy relationships. Burn, destroy, or dispose of them completely.

  5. Release and Rebuke – Forgive those who have wronged you. Unforgiveness is one of Satan’s strongest weapons. Then, in the name of Jesus, rebuke the demon and command it to leave your life.

Deliverance doesn’t require a stage, a crowd, or a special event. You can experience freedom right now—right where you are. Stretch out your hands and invite the Holy Spirit to fill every area of your life. Jesus is willing and able to deliver you today.

Why Christians Should Reject Esoteric Energy Practices

Why Christians Should Reject Esoteric Energy Practices

Why Christians Should Reject Esoteric Energy Practices

Esoteric Energy: The Hidden Dangers Christians Must Not Ignore

In today’s spiritually hungry world, many people seek experiences that transcend the physical. This desire has birthed a surge in mystical practices involving esoteric energy—forces or powers claimed to affect physical and emotional states but that cannot be scientifically measured. These practices are commonly found in Reiki, Qi Gong, chakra balancing, kundalini awakening, and other New Age modalities. But behind these alluring experiences lies a spiritual realm that Scripture warns us about.

What is Esoteric Energy?

Esoteric energy refers to invisible forces said to flow through the human body and universe. Unlike the scientifically proven forms of energy (thermal, kinetic, electromagnetic), esoteric energy operates on a metaphysical level. It is typically manipulated through spiritual rituals, hand motions, symbols, breathing techniques, and mental focus. Practitioners claim this energy can heal, enlighten, and connect individuals with divine consciousness.

Origin and Spiritual Foundation

These ideas trace back to Eastern religions and occult traditions. In Hinduism, the concept of prana (life force) and chakras forms the basis of energy healing. Buddhism incorporates Qi (chi)—believed to flow through meridians—used in practices like acupuncture and Tai Chi. In modern times, these ancient beliefs have merged with New Age spirituality, creating a syncretistic religion that promotes self-deification and contact with spiritual beings.

These systems often acknowledge multiple gods, spirit guides, or universal forces, rather than the one true God of the Bible. Their founders and influencers include occultists like Helena Blavatsky (Theosophy), Alice Bailey, and Madame Blavatsky, who openly communicated with “ascended masters”—spiritual entities that Christians would identify as demonic spirits (1 Timothy 4:1).

Is Esoteric Energy Divination or Demonic?

While esoteric energy isn’t always explicitly labeled as divination, it operates in a similar fashion, seeking hidden knowledge or spiritual power apart from God. The Bible explicitly forbids this:

“There shall not be found among you...a diviner, a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens...For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord...” —Deuteronomy 18:10-12

What’s more, the manipulation of unseen forces to bring healing or enlightenment is sorcery, which is condemned throughout Scripture (Galatians 5:19-21). These practices open the door to demonic influence, spiritual oppression, and even possession.

Why Christians Should Reject These Practices

God’s Word is clear: we are to seek healing, peace, and guidance from Him alone. Christ alone is our Healer (Isaiah 53:5), our Light (John 8:12), and the only Way to spiritual truth (John 14:6). The seductive pull of esoteric energy promotes self-reliance, not dependence on God. It glorifies experience over Scripture, and leads people into spiritual bondage.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind...” —Romans 12:2

Many former practitioners report horrifying consequences: demonic torment, sleep paralysis, fear, confusion, loss of peace, and an inability to connect with God until they renounced and repented of these practices.

Spiritual Consequences and Deception

Engaging with esoteric energy is not a neutral act. Though it may offer temporary feelings of warmth, healing, or connection, these are deceptive experiences rooted in counterfeit spiritual power. The enemy comes as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) but seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). What begins as harmless curiosity can end in spiritual torment, mental instability, and even physical ailments, anxiety, unnatural fears.

The Call to Come Out

The Bible calls us separate from the world (2 Corinthians 6:17). Christians must reject the counterfeit to embrace the truth. If you’ve engaged in esoteric energy practices, repent, renounce, and seek deliverance in the name of Jesus Christ.

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” —Ephesians 5:11

Methods of discernment to see if it lines up with Scripture:

• Who was the founder of this modality?

• What was his/her spirituality?

• What culture did it come out of?

• What were their beliefs?

• Who is their God or gods?

Many occult practices in Christianity need to be discerned.  Another method of discernment is the Word of God. The word of God is our measuring stick. The more we read the word, know the word, and have a relationship with the Lord, the more we discern right and wrong. We perish from a lack of knowledge.

Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.”

The Power of Forgiveness: A Key to Healing and Deliverance – Mercy, Grace, and Love

Watch Recorded Deliverance Webinar - May 12, 2025.

Forgiveness is not merely a kind gesture or a suggestion from Scripture—it is a divine command, foundational to the Christian life. It is the heartbeat of God’s redemptive plan, intricately woven into the gospel of Jesus Christ. Yet, many believers live in bondage, unaware that unforgiveness is a spiritual stronghold blocking their healing, peace, and deliverance.

Forgiveness isn't always easy, especially when the pain cuts deep. But Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted (Luke 4:18), and that healing often begins with choosing to forgive. Whether the wound came from betrayal, abuse, neglect, or rejection, the key to moving forward lies in mercy, grace, and love—the very character of God.

The Biblical Mandate to Forgive

Scripture does not leave forgiveness as an option for followers of Christ. In fact, forgiveness is a requirement. Jesus said in Matthew 6:14–15 (NIV):

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

This passage should stop us in our tracks. It reveals a powerful spiritual law: God ties His forgiveness of us to our forgiveness of others. Harboring unforgiveness becomes a wall between us and the Father. It hinders our prayers, obstructs our spiritual growth, and invites spiritual torment.

The Hidden Cost of Unforgiveness

Unforgiveness is not just a private emotion; it is a spiritual toxin. Hebrews 12:15 warns:

“See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.”

Bitterness doesn’t stay contained. It spreads. It poisons not just the one who holds it, but those around them—defiling relationships, distorting perception, and even affecting physical health. Emotional turmoil can manifest in anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Studies, as well as Christian health ministries, have shown that long-term bitterness can suppress immune function and increase susceptibility to disease. Spiritually, bitterness gives legal access to the enemy.

When we do not forgive, we enter into a kind of communion with bitterness. Just as communion with Christ brings life, communion with bitterness brings death—spiritually, emotionally, and sometimes physically. It becomes a spiritual agreement with darkness. Instead of fellowshipping with the Holy Spirit, we become entangled with a demonic stronghold that feeds on unresolved offense.

Ephesians 4:26–27 puts it plainly:

“In your anger do not sin: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”

That foothold becomes a stronghold when anger and offense are nurtured instead of released. We may feel justified, but the enemy doesn’t play fair. Bitterness, when nurtured, becomes a partner with spirits of anger, division, and torment.

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant

Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 18:21–35 is one of the clearest illustrations of the consequences of unforgiveness. A servant is forgiven a great debt by his master but refuses to forgive a smaller debt owed to him by a fellow servant. The master, enraged by the servant’s lack of mercy, hands him over to the tormentors.

Jesus concludes:

“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.” (v. 35)

The term tormentors is sobering. In the spiritual realm, unforgiveness opens doors to torment—mental anguish, depression, and demonic oppression. Deliverance ministers often encounter individuals who cannot receive freedom until they release the person who hurt them.

When we hold onto bitterness, we become spiritually entangled with the one who wounded us. It’s like carrying them on your back—reliving the moment repeatedly, replaying the offense, rehearsing the pain. Peace vanishes. Sleep becomes restless. Relationships suffer. And all the while, the enemy whispers lies that justify our bitterness and keep us bound.

The Science Behind the Spirit

Even science confirms what Scripture has long taught. Studies on unforgiveness and bitterness reveal biological effects—stress hormones increase, immune systems weaken, and diseases like cancer and heart problems may be more likely to develop. Unforgiveness can activate epigenetic switches that negatively influence our DNA.

When we refuse to forgive, we literally put out the wrong chemicals in our bodies—stress, cortisol, and adrenaline—all of which can contribute to disease when chronically elevated. As Dr. Henry Wright of Be in Health ministries teaches, spiritual sin can impact physical health. And bitterness is a primary root behind many diseases.

Forgiveness: The Gateway to Healing and Deliverance

Forgiveness is often the number one block to healing and deliverance. When a person chooses to forgive from the heart, it’s like unlocking a prison door—releasing not only the offender, but also the offended. Physical healings, emotional restoration, and spiritual breakthroughs often follow genuine forgiveness.

Mark 11:25 (NIV) says:

“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

God’s mercy flows freely when we align our hearts with His. Forgiveness is not about forgetting or excusing evil. It is about choosing freedom over bondage. It’s about giving God the gavel and allowing Him to be the righteous Judge.

Romans 12:19 reminds us:

“Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

Forgiveness Is a Choice, Not a Feeling

One of the biggest lies the enemy tells is that we have to feel like forgiving. But feelings often lag behind obedience. Biblical forgiveness is a decision of the will. It’s a choice to say, “God, I trust You more than I trust my pain.”

Colossians 3:13 (NIV) instructs:

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

Jesus didn't wait for us to ask before He offered forgiveness on the cross. He forgave while they mocked Him, while they nailed Him down.

“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

Can we do any less?

A Personal Story of Freedom

I once carried deep unforgiveness toward someone who betrayed me. I prayed for healing, but my prayers seemed to hit a ceiling. Peace eluded me. One night, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper, "You are in communion with bitterness. Let it go."

I broke down. Through tears, I forgave—truly forgave. And almost instantly, a weight lifted. That night, I slept peacefully for the first time in months. Healing began. My relationship with God was restored, and the torment left.

Practical Steps to Forgive

  1. Acknowledge the Pain: Be honest with God about what happened. He already knows. Denial delays healing.

  2. Make the Decision to Forgive: Speak it out loud or in prayer: “Father, I choose to forgive [name] for [offense]. I release them into Your hands.”

  3. Repent for Holding Bitterness: Ask God to cleanse your heart of all resentment. He is faithful to forgive.

  4. Invite the Holy Spirit to Heal You: Emotional wounds can take time to heal. Ask for comfort and restoration.

  5. Bless Your Offender: Jesus commanded, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). This disarms the enemy and shifts your heart toward compassion.

  6. Repeat if Necessary: Forgiveness is often layered. As deeper hurts surface, choose to forgive again.

Communion with Christ, Not Bitterness

Every day, we choose who we will commune with: Jesus, the Prince of Peace—or bitterness, the root of torment. Bitterness is a counterfeit communion. It consumes the mind, distorts the heart, and partners with darkness.

Jesus said in John 14:30:

“The prince of this world is coming. He has no hold over me.”

Why did Satan have no foothold? Because there was no sin or unforgiveness in Jesus. We too must live clean, free from the snares of bitterness, so that the enemy has nothing in us.

Freedom Is on the Other Side

Forgiveness is the bridge between bondage and breakthrough. It is not weakness—it is supernatural strength. It does not mean reconciliation is always possible. It doesn’t mean trusting someone who has repeatedly harmed you. But it means releasing them from judgment and letting God be God.

If you struggle with unforgiveness, remember: You are not alone. Philippians 2:13 encourages:

“For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose.”

He will give you the grace to forgive. As you let go of the offense, you will find that the prison you unlocked was your own.

Choose today to end communion with bitterness—and enter into true communion with Christ. The healing you long for is just on the other side of forgiveness.

The Silent Destroyer: How Bitterness and Unforgiveness Open Doors to Mental Torment and Spiritual Bondage

The Silent Destroyer: How Bitterness and Unforgiveness Open Doors to Mental Torment and Spiritual Bondage

The Silent Destroyer: How Bitterness and Unforgiveness Open Doors to Mental Torment and Spiritual Bondage

Symptoms of Bitterness

Bitterness is a deeply rooted spiritual and emotional toxin. It often begins as a smoldering resentment—a response to being wounded or wronged. Left unchecked, bitterness can morph into judgment, cruelty, gossip, and even violence, whether through words or actions.

Bitter people tend to dwell on what was done to them, replaying offenses over and over in their minds. This behavior can manifest as chronic complaining, self-pity, passive-aggressive responses, or even physical violence. Bitterness is not just a feeling—it becomes a spiritual stronghold that gives the enemy legal access to torment the soul.

The Victim Mentality and Emotional Bondage

Many who struggle with bitterness live in a victim mindset. They rehearse their stories of hurt, seeking sympathy or validation rather than healing. This fosters a spirit of self-pity and can attract more rejection, keeping them in cycles of pain. Bitterness feeds on unforgiveness, creating an internal prison from which many cannot escape.

Bitterness doesn’t stay passive. It fuels long-term mismanagement of anger, frustration, and irritation, which eventually wears down mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Psychological research supports that unresolved anger and hostility are common roots of many mental disorders, including depression, anxiety, and paranoia.

When Bitterness Becomes Mental Torment

Bitterness distorts perception. People tormented by it may have exaggerated negative thoughts or irrational fears. Some become isolated, distrustful, or even paranoid. In deliverance ministry, we’ve seen that persistent unforgiveness often correlates with spirits of fear, suspicion, and mental torment.

For example, a woman with prophetic gifting began misreading others due to her unresolved bitterness. Her spiritual discernment was clouded by paranoia, leading to broken relationships and spiritual confusion. This is how the enemy uses bitterness to fracture the community, distort reality, and isolate believers.

Bitterness Within Families and Churches

The sting of bitterness often strikes hardest in families. Bitter individuals frequently lash out at those closest to them—siblings, spouses, or parents. Their wounds fester in silence or explode in rage. Sadly, these patterns often carry over into churches. A person who cannot forgive a family member may also hold grudges against fellow believers, leading to disconnection from the Body of Christ.

Some even withdraw completely, cutting themselves off from people out of fear of being hurt again. They may start “throwaway relationships” online, easily discarding others at the first sign of disagreement.

Bitterness Affects Your Walk with God

The Silent Destroyer: How Bitterness and Unforgiveness Open Doors to Mental Torment and Spiritual Bondage

Bitterness and unforgiveness separate us from God. Scripture is clear:

“But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:15)

God cannot fellowship with unrepentant sin. When someone refuses to forgive, it hinders their prayers, blocks blessings, and removes divine protection.

Physical Manifestations of Bitterness

Bitterness often has physical consequences. It can lead to sleep problems, digestive issues, high blood pressure, and immune dysfunction. People may experience chest pains, migraines, or chronic fatigue rooted in internal stress and resentment.

In deliverance, we've ministered to many who harm themselves—cutting, burning, or sabotaging their own lives—because they’ve never dealt with the root of unforgiveness. When asked, nearly all admitted to harboring bitterness toward someone who wounded them in childhood.

Warning Signs of Bitterness

You may be dealing with bitterness if you:

  • Feel a “ping” in your heart when someone’s name is mentioned.

  • Rehearse the offense in your mind repeatedly.

  • Gossip or share the offense to gain attention or sympathy.

  • Get angry, cry, or withdraw when facing someone who hurt you.

  • Feel coldness or disgust around certain people or groups.

  • Constantly seek validation through retelling your pain.

How to Be Free from Bitterness

There is hope. Jesus came to free the captives (Luke 4:18), and bitterness is one of the chains He wants to break in your life.

1. Forgive from the Heart

Forgiveness is not a feeling—it’s a choice. It’s not excusing what was done, but choosing to release the debt.

2. Confess and Repent

Admit the sin of bitterness and ask God to cleanse your heart. Choose to walk in love and trust Him with justice.

3. Renounce the Spirit of Bitterness

In Jesus’ name, renounce the spirit of bitterness and any related spirits (anger, rejection, fear, gossip). Command them to leave.

4. Fill the Void with God's Presence

After deliverance, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with peace, love, and joy. Spend time in worship, Scripture, and prayer.

5. Get Help if You Need It

You don’t have to walk this out alone. Touch of God Ministries offers personal and group deliverance ministry to help you heal.
