Psychokinesis: Moving Objects with the Mind or Opening Doors to Demons?

Psychokinesis: Moving Objects with the Mind or Opening Doors to Demons?

Psychokinesis: Moving Objects with the Mind or Opening Doors to Demons?

Introduction

Psychokinesis—also known as telekinesis—is the alleged ability to move or manipulate physical objects using only the power of the mind. Many people are fascinated by it, believing it’s a natural human potential or a “spiritual gift.” Movies, comics, and video games often glorify psychokinetic abilities as heroic or enlightened powers.

But what does the Bible say about this? Is psychokinesis a divine gift or a deception of the enemy? When we look closely, psychokinesis is not a scientific phenomenon or God-given ability. It is rooted in occult practices, fueled by demonic power, and stands in direct opposition to God’s Word.

What Is Psychokinesis?

Psychokinesis (from the Greek psyche, meaning “mind,” and kinesis, meaning “movement”) refers to the supposed ability to move or influence physical matter without physical contact—by the mind alone. This includes bending metal objects, levitating items, or altering dice rolls through concentration.

Modern believers in psychokinesis view it as a demonstration of “energy control” or “mind over matter.” However, no scientific proof exists that humans can generate this kind of power naturally. What does exist is a long record of occult rituals, psychic practices, and demonic manifestations that mimic this phenomenon.

Origins of the Idea

The concept of psychokinesis became popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries during the rise of spiritualism and psychical research. Early mediums like Daniel Dunglas Home and Eusapia Palladino claimed to levitate objects, play instruments, and even float in the air during sΓ©ances.

Researchers such as J.B. Rhine at Duke University in the 1930s tried to study telekinesis scientifically, but his experiments lacked credible evidence. Most modern cases of psychokinesis are exposed as frauds or involve spiritual manifestations from unseen entities—what Scripture calls “familiar spirits.”

From a biblical view, psychokinesis is not a human mental ability—it’s a supernatural act of demonic power, performed to deceive people into believing they can be “like gods.”

What Are Their Beliefs?

Those who practice or study psychokinesis typically believe that:

  • The mind or consciousness is an energy field capable of influencing matter.

  • Humans possess latent psychic abilities that can be awakened through meditation, willpower, or training.

  • These powers represent spiritual evolution or higher consciousness.

  • Physical laws can be bent or transcended through mental focus.

These beliefs mirror ancient occult philosophies found in Hinduism, Buddhism, and New Age mysticism, where practitioners claim to tap into a “universal energy” or “life force” known as prana, chi, or ki.

However, Scripture makes it clear that power belongs only to God (Psalm 62:11). Any supernatural ability that bypasses God’s authority comes from a counterfeit source—the devil.

Who Is Their God or gods?

The gods of psychokinesis are not the God of the Bible. Those who engage in psychic or telekinetic practices often invoke cosmic energies, spirit guides, or ascended masters—demonic entities posing as enlightened beings.

Exodus 20:3 warns, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” The power behind psychokinesis is not divine—it is demonic. Satan seeks to imitate the works of God by giving people counterfeit abilities that appear spiritual but lead to bondage.

In Acts 8:9–11, Simon the sorcerer amazed people with “great power,” yet he was operating through demonic influence. Similarly, psychokinesis offers false wonder and pride, drawing people away from dependence on the Holy Spirit.

What Is the Purpose of Psychokinesis?

The purpose behind psychokinesis is twofold: self-exaltation and deception. Practitioners seek to prove that man can control reality through his own mind—echoing Satan’s original lie in the Garden of Eden: “Ye shall be as gods” (Genesis 3:5).

It is used to:

  • Display supernatural “proof” of spiritual advancement

  • Entice curiosity about hidden powers

  • Demonstrate independence from God

  • Validate occult teachings about energy manipulation

But the ultimate purpose from Satan’s perspective is to open spiritual doors—to invite demonic influence under the illusion of “mental power.”

Why People Get Involved

People become involved with psychokinesis for many reasons:

  • Curiosity about supernatural abilities

  • Desire for control over circumstances or nature

  • Fascination with psychic or paranormal experiences

  • Influence from movies, anime, and occult culture

  • Seeking power, recognition, or spiritual awakening

But behind this curiosity lies a spiritual trap. Once a person experiments with psychic phenomena, demons gain legal access to influence their thoughts and emotions. They can manifest as false power, then torment the person through fear, pride, or obsession.

Is Psychokinesis Divination?

Yes, psychokinesis qualifies as divination, because it involves manipulating or influencing the physical world through supernatural forces outside of God’s will. Deuteronomy 18:10–12 forbids “one who uses divination or an enchanter or a witch or a consulter with familiar spirits.”

While some may argue psychokinesis is scientific or natural, the spiritual reality is that it originates from occult roots. It replaces prayer and faith with mental control and human pride. Anything that attempts to wield spiritual power apart from God’s authority is divination and witchcraft in disguise.

Why Deliverance Is Needed

Anyone who has practiced or pursued psychokinesis needs deliverance and repentance. In attempting to access hidden power, a person opens themselves to demonic control. Signs of oppression may include:

  • Strange movements of objects or poltergeist activity

  • Sudden anger, confusion, or nightmares

  • Pride in supernatural experiences

  • Fear of losing control or spiritual darkness

Deliverance begins with repentance and renunciation:

“Heavenly Father, I repent for seeking psychic power and control through my mind. I renounce the spirit of divination, witchcraft, and pride. I break every agreement made with demonic forces in the name of Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, fill me with Your peace and truth. Amen.”

True power and peace come only from God through Jesus Christ—not through mental manipulation. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to overcome evil, not to imitate it.

Conclusion

Psychokinesis may seem like harmless curiosity or human potential, but biblically it is a form of occult divination rooted in demonic deception. God forbids His people from engaging in practices that seek supernatural control apart from Him.

No human mind can move matter by its own will—only God commands creation. To seek that power is to fall into the same pride that caused Lucifer’s downfall.

If you’ve experimented with telekinesis or psychic powers, there is hope. Jesus Christ breaks every yoke of deception and offers freedom to all who repent and turn to Him.

Why God Forbids Psychic Readings, Vision & Spiritual Surgery: Origins, Beliefs & Danger”

Why God Forbids Psychic Readings, Vision & Spiritual Surgery: Origins, Beliefs & Danger

Why God Forbids Psychic Readings, Vision & Spiritual Surgery: Origins, Beliefs & Danger

Introduction

In our modern age of spiritual curiosity, many are drawn toward psychic readings, visions, and even the extraordinary claims of psychic surgery. These practices promise insight, healing, and connection with unseen realms. But for the Christian who takes the Bible seriously, there is a grave concern: these modalities may not only be misguided, but spiritually dangerous and incompatible with God’s revealed will. In this article, we will:

  • Define psychic readings, psychic sight, and psychic surgery

  • Trace their origins, beliefs, and purpose

  • Identify who or what powers they invoke

  • Examine why people use them, and whether they constitute divination

  • Consider what the Bible says and why these practices are strongly cautioned against

Definitions: Psychic Readings, Psychic Sight, Psychic Surgery

Psychic Readings / Mediumship

Psychic readings refer to attempts to glean information about a person’s past, present, or future by tapping into spiritual forces, spirit guides, or unseen realms. Mediumship is closely related: a medium claims to communicate with disembodied spirits, deceased persons, or supernatural entities to convey messages to the living. GotQuestions.org+2Wikipedia+2

Psychic Sight (Clairvoyance / Vision beyond the natural)

This is the claimed ability to "see" spiritual, energetic, or hidden realms—even when physical sight is unavailable. Some claim to receive clairvoyant visions, see aura layers, spirits, or glimpses of future events beyond mortal perception.

Psychic Surgery

Psychic surgery is an extreme and dramatic claim: the so-called practitioner places bare hands on the patient, “penetrates” the body without instruments, and seemingly removes diseased tissues or foreign matter, then restores the body with no visible wound. Wikipedia+2Academia+2
In reality, investigators have repeatedly labeled it fraud, sleight-of-hand, illusion, and trickery. Wikipedia+1

Beliefs, Origins, and Development

What Were Their Beliefs?

  • Psychic readings & mediumship assume a layered spiritual realm, inhabited by departed souls, spirit guides, or invisible entities. Practitioners claim the ability to tap into or channel messages from that realm. Wikipedia+2blog.atriresearch.org+2

  • Psychic sight presumes that the physical senses are limited, and that certain people can access spiritual sight. The belief often includes that what is seen is real, meaningful, and helpful to guide decisions or reveal hidden truth.

  • Psychic surgery is often tied to spirit doctors or spiritual intercession: behind the hands of the practitioner is a spiritual being (a guide, spirit doctor) that directs the extraction and healing. Some accounts of healing mediums combine mediumship and physical healing in a single package. Academia+1

Many of these systems draw from spiritualism, occultism, New Age, animism, or syncretistic traditions. They may adopt ideas of reincarnation, karma, spiritual energy, or universality.

Who Created or Popularized These Ideas?

  • Psychic readings and mediumship have ancient roots—shamans, oracles, necromancers date back millennia. In more modern times, the 19th-century Spiritualism movement in the U.S. and Europe established mediumship as a religious-scientific curiosity. The Fox Sisters (1848) are famously tied to the rise of modern spiritualism. OhioLINK ETD Center+2Wikipedia+2

  • Psychic surgery emerged more recently, particularly in the mid-20th century, in the Philippines and Brazil. Wikipedia+1

  • Notable psychic surgeons like Tony Agpaoa in the Philippines built centers drawing thousands for alleged operations. Wikipedia+1

  • In Brazil, medium-healer ZΓ© ArigΓ³ claimed to work under control of spirit entities (e.g., “Dr. Fritz”) to perform cures without conventional surgery. Wikipedia

  • Over time, these practices spread via mass media, New Age movements, and alternative healing communities.

Thus, while not traceable to a single “founder,” these practices coalesced in spiritualist, occult, and metaphysical milieus over centuries.

Who or What Powers Are Invoked?

  • In psychic readings and mediumship, contact is typically claimed with spirits, guides, ancestors, or unseen intelligences that are not the God of the Bible.

  • Psychic sight often claims access to spiritual realms or energy fields beyond physical sight, implying unseen spiritual forces.

  • Psychic surgery is often said to operate via spirit doctors or spiritual intercessors guiding the hand, drawing on unseen power beyond human skill. Academia

  • These sources are not the Christian God; they are spiritual entities outside biblical revelation (and often align with occult or demonic classification in Christian critique).

  • Because practitioners often do not acknowledge Christ or the Holy Spirit, or actively contradict biblical gospel truths, Christian commentators warn these powers may be demonic or deceptive. Vladimir Savchuk Ministries+2blog.atriresearch.org+2

Purpose, Use, and Why People Are Drawn

Purpose & Use

  • Psychic readings promise insight, guidance, answers about relationships, future, or identity—something many crave in times of uncertainty.

  • Psychic sight offers a sense of spiritual awareness and authority, apparently revealing hidden truths.

  • Psychic surgery markets healing—physical, emotional, or spiritual—under the guise of supernatural intervention.

  • Sometimes people hope to bypass conventional medicine or gain a miracle; others perceive this as spiritual empowerment or access to hidden realms.

Why People Use or Get Involved

  • Need or desperation: facing loss, disease, brokenness, some turn to anything promising hope.

  • Curiosity: the occult and paranormal are culturally sensational and alluring.

  • Deception: advanced practitioners may combine ego-stroking, partial truth, or plausible outcomes to hook clients.

  • Slippery slope: a person may begin “just out of curiosity,” then deepen involvement gradually.

  • Rejection of conventional religion: some see psychic practices as “spiritual but not religious,” or more experiential than institutional Christianity.

But each entry into these practices can open spiritual doors to deception or bondage from forces not aligned with God.

Is It Divination? And Why the Bible Forbids It

From a Christian perspective, yes—psychic reading, mediumship, psychic sight, and psychic surgery fall under the umbrella of divination, spiritism, or sorcery, all of which Scripture expressly forbids.

Biblical Prohibitions

  • Deuteronomy 18:10–12 prohibits diviners, fortune-tellers, mediums, necromancers. These practices are “abominations” to the Lord.

  • Leviticus 19:31: “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them.”

  • Isaiah 8:19, 2 Kings 21:6, Leviticus 20:27, Exodus 22:18 also condemn consulting spirits or practicing witchcraft.

  • In the New Testament, believers are told to “test the spirits” (1 John 4:1-4), and Paul warns of false prophets and demonic deception.

  • Early Christians destroyed occult books (Acts 19:19) as part of turning away from such practices. blog.atriresearch.org

Why It’s Considered Deviation

  • It places authority and trust in hidden spiritual powers rather than God.

  • It bypasses God’s revealed means (prayer, Scripture, the Holy Spirit) to access knowledge or power.

  • It may open a person to demonic influence or spiritual bondage, rather than God’s protective authority.

  • Scripture’s consistency shows that God desires that humans rely on Him—not on the spirits or powers that claim supernatural access.

  • Even some practices that seem benign (healing, visions) can mask deeper occult spiritual control.

Christian writers assert that when psychics or mediums give correct statements, it is not proof of legitimacy but signs of selective truth, deception, or spiritual manipulation. GotQuestions.org+2blog.atriresearch.org+2

Risks, Warnings, and Practical Guidance

Risks

  • Spiritual deception or subtle entrance of demonic influence

  • Emotional or psychological manipulation by practitioners

  • Delay or refusal of legitimate medical treatment (especially in the case of psychic surgery) Wikipedia+1

  • False hope, dependency, and spiritual addiction

  • Undermines one’s faith or identity in Christ

Warnings

  • Even if some elements appear true or helpful, underlying authority is not from God.

  • Christians must practice discernment and test all spiritual activity by Scripture (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

  • Avoid engaging with psychics, mediumship, spirit communication, or unbiblical healing modalities.

  • Instead, trust God’s means of guidance: Scripture, prayer, counsel of the Holy Spirit, and godly community.

Summary & Call to Turn to God

Psychic readings, psychic sight, and psychic surgery, while distinct in form, share a common spiritual framework: they appeal to unseen powers, promise supernatural access, and usually bypass God. From a biblical standpoint, these are forms of divination or occult practice, strongly forbidden in both Old and New Testaments.

While the world may normalize or romanticize such practices, Christians are called to reject them—not out of fear, but out of love. God forbids them because He loves us. He knows that what is claimed to come from spirit realms often originates from deception or demonic influence, designed to entangle and mislead. Some statements may be accurate, others flattering, or false, all in a strategy to hook souls into continued occult connection.

Instead of seeking advice from mediums, trance healers, or spirit surgeons, we are to turn exclusively to God—through prayer, the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, and godly fellowship. He is the only source of true guidance, healing, wisdom, and protection.

The Darkness Behind Hecate and Hepatoscopy

The Darkness Behind Hecate and Hepatoscopy: A Christian Warning

The Darkness Behind Hecate and Hepatoscopy: A Christian Warning

The Darkness Behind Hecate and Hepatoscopy: A Christian Warning

Introduction

The revival of ancient occult practices in modern spirituality is not only alarming but spiritually dangerous. Among these are the worship of Hecate—an ancient goddess associated with witchcraft—and hepatoscopy, a form of divination through animal liver readings. Both originated from pagan cultures steeped in darkness and deception. For Christians, these practices are not simply historical curiosities; they represent spiritual rebellion against God.

This article exposes the spiritual roots and consequences of these practices, comparing them with biblical truth, and warning Christians against their dangers.

Who Was Hecate?

Hecate is an ancient deity of uncertain origin, likely pre-Greek, who was later incorporated into Greek and Roman pantheons. Initially associated with childbirth, crossroads, and wilderness, her role evolved dramatically over time. By the Hellenistic period, Hecate became synonymous with sorcery, necromancy, and witchcraft.

She was often depicted holding torches and keys, symbolizing her role as a gatekeeper between worlds—light and darkness, life and death. As goddess of the underworld and night rituals, Hecate was deeply revered in witchcraft circles, especially in nocturnal rites and spells. In modern occultism, Hecate has been reclaimed by Wiccans and New Age practitioners, further emphasizing her ongoing influence.

What Is Hepatoscopy?

Hepatoscopy, or liver divination, was a prominent form of augury practiced in ancient Mesopotamia, Etruria, and later Greece and Rome. The practice involves inspecting the liver of a sacrificed animal—usually a sheep or goat—to determine the will of the gods or predict the future. The liver was seen as the seat of life, thus serving as a divine communication tool.

The ritual was performed by a haruspex (a diviner) who interpreted signs like discoloration, shape, or markings. This form of divination was often done before military campaigns or major decisions, showing the deep reliance pagan cultures had on occult methods instead of God.

The Cultural and Spiritual Roots

Hepatoscopy originated in ancient Babylonian religion, where diviners were known as "bārû" and were considered mediators between man and the gods. These practices were later adopted by the Etruscans and Romans and linked with goddesses like Hecate and other deities of the underworld.

This system of belief was polytheistic, pantheistic, and fundamentally opposed to the biblical worldview. Their gods were capricious, immoral, and demanded blood sacrifices. These acts were not just misguided religious rituals—they were channels through which demons operated.

Hecate, in particular, was venerated during rituals involving darkness, crossroads, and communication with the dead. Her worship was steeped in necromancy, spellcasting, and invoking spirits—all practices the Bible strictly forbids.

What Does the Bible Say?

God’s Word is crystal clear: all forms of witchcraft, divination, and communication with the dead are abominations.

Old Testament Warnings

“There shall not be found among you... anyone who practices divination, or tells fortunes, or interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium... For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord.”
— Deuteronomy 18:10–12 (ESV)

The worship of Hecate and practice of hepatoscopy fall squarely under these forbidden categories. They rely on spirits and signs apart from God, drawing people away from true worship and into spiritual deception.

The Israelites were repeatedly warned not to adopt the occult customs of surrounding nations. When King Saul consulted the witch of Endor, it led to his downfall and death (1 Samuel 28).

New Testament Affirmation

The New Testament echoes this warning:

“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity... idolatry, sorcery... those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
— Galatians 5:19–21 (ESV)

“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable... sorcerers... their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur.”
— Revelation 21:8 (ESV)

Sorcery, necromancy, and divination are paths to spiritual destruction. They open doors to demonic influence, leading not to enlightenment but bondage.

Spiritual Consequences for Christians

Engaging in any form of occult practice—including honoring deities like Hecate or seeking answers through hepatoscopy—brings grave spiritual consequences. These practices act as invitations to demonic entities.

Demonic Intrusion and Torment

Many who dabble in the occult report tormenting thoughts, night terrors, tormenting fears, depression, and intrusive spiritual experiences. These are not psychological flukes—they are the result of entering forbidden spiritual territory.

“Give no opportunity to the devil.”
— Ephesians 4:27 (ESV)

When Christians involve themselves with these dark arts—whether through curiosity, fascination, or ignorance—they give legal ground to the enemy. Deliverance ministries often report a direct link between past occult involvement and present torment.

Why Christians Must Completely Reject These Practices

The gospel of Jesus Christ offers complete truth, freedom, and life. There is no need to seek insight from animal entrails or ancient deities. To turn to anything but God is idolatry.

“If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)

We are called to walk in the light, not in the shadows of pagan practices. Our guidance comes from the Holy Spirit, not from livers, spirits of the dead, or demonic beings masquerading as goddesses.

Conclusion

Hecate and hepatoscopy are not merely ancient myths or cultural traditions—they are spiritual traps that continue to ensnare people today. The Bible makes it clear that these practices are not compatible with the Christian faith. They are paths to demonic intrusion and destruction.

Let this serve as a warning: Christians must be spiritually vigilant. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness (Ephesians 5:11), and walk in the freedom that Christ has purchased with His blood.

Why Christians Should Reject Esoteric Energy Practices

Why Christians Should Reject Esoteric Energy Practices

Why Christians Should Reject Esoteric Energy Practices

Esoteric Energy: The Hidden Dangers Christians Must Not Ignore

In today’s spiritually hungry world, many people seek experiences that transcend the physical. This desire has birthed a surge in mystical practices involving esoteric energy—forces or powers claimed to affect physical and emotional states but that cannot be scientifically measured. These practices are commonly found in Reiki, Qi Gong, chakra balancing, kundalini awakening, and other New Age modalities. But behind these alluring experiences lies a spiritual realm that Scripture warns us about.

What is Esoteric Energy?

Esoteric energy refers to invisible forces said to flow through the human body and universe. Unlike the scientifically proven forms of energy (thermal, kinetic, electromagnetic), esoteric energy operates on a metaphysical level. It is typically manipulated through spiritual rituals, hand motions, symbols, breathing techniques, and mental focus. Practitioners claim this energy can heal, enlighten, and connect individuals with divine consciousness.

Origin and Spiritual Foundation

These ideas trace back to Eastern religions and occult traditions. In Hinduism, the concept of prana (life force) and chakras forms the basis of energy healing. Buddhism incorporates Qi (chi)—believed to flow through meridians—used in practices like acupuncture and Tai Chi. In modern times, these ancient beliefs have merged with New Age spirituality, creating a syncretistic religion that promotes self-deification and contact with spiritual beings.

These systems often acknowledge multiple gods, spirit guides, or universal forces, rather than the one true God of the Bible. Their founders and influencers include occultists like Helena Blavatsky (Theosophy), Alice Bailey, and Madame Blavatsky, who openly communicated with “ascended masters”—spiritual entities that Christians would identify as demonic spirits (1 Timothy 4:1).

Is Esoteric Energy Divination or Demonic?

While esoteric energy isn’t always explicitly labeled as divination, it operates in a similar fashion, seeking hidden knowledge or spiritual power apart from God. The Bible explicitly forbids this:

“There shall not be found among you...a diviner, a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens...For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord...” —Deuteronomy 18:10-12

What’s more, the manipulation of unseen forces to bring healing or enlightenment is sorcery, which is condemned throughout Scripture (Galatians 5:19-21). These practices open the door to demonic influence, spiritual oppression, and even possession.

Why Christians Should Reject These Practices

God’s Word is clear: we are to seek healing, peace, and guidance from Him alone. Christ alone is our Healer (Isaiah 53:5), our Light (John 8:12), and the only Way to spiritual truth (John 14:6). The seductive pull of esoteric energy promotes self-reliance, not dependence on God. It glorifies experience over Scripture, and leads people into spiritual bondage.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind...” —Romans 12:2

Many former practitioners report horrifying consequences: demonic torment, sleep paralysis, fear, confusion, loss of peace, and an inability to connect with God until they renounced and repented of these practices.

Spiritual Consequences and Deception

Engaging with esoteric energy is not a neutral act. Though it may offer temporary feelings of warmth, healing, or connection, these are deceptive experiences rooted in counterfeit spiritual power. The enemy comes as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) but seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). What begins as harmless curiosity can end in spiritual torment, mental instability, and even physical ailments, anxiety, unnatural fears.

The Call to Come Out

The Bible calls us separate from the world (2 Corinthians 6:17). Christians must reject the counterfeit to embrace the truth. If you’ve engaged in esoteric energy practices, repent, renounce, and seek deliverance in the name of Jesus Christ.

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.” —Ephesians 5:11

Methods of discernment to see if it lines up with Scripture:

• Who was the founder of this modality?

• What was his/her spirituality?

• What culture did it come out of?

• What were their beliefs?

• Who is their God or gods?

Many occult practices in Christianity need to be discerned.  Another method of discernment is the Word of God. The word of God is our measuring stick. The more we read the word, know the word, and have a relationship with the Lord, the more we discern right and wrong. We perish from a lack of knowledge.

Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.”

Gnosis, Chaos Magic, and Demonic Deception: A Biblical Warning

Gnosis, Chaos Magic, and Demonic Deception: A Biblical Warning

Gnosis, Chaos Magic, and Demonic Deception: A Biblical Warning

Chaos Magic and Gnosis: A Christian Warning Against Occult Deception

Chaos magic is a modern occult system focusing on practical results rather than rigid doctrines. Developed in the late 20th century, chaos magic teaches that belief is a tool to manipulate. At the core of this practice lies the concept of gnosis—an altered state of consciousness where the mind is emptied of distractions and focused solely on a single magical intent. This bypasses the rational mind and makes one more susceptible to spiritual influences.

Founders and Spiritual Roots

Chaos magic emerged in the 1970s and 1980s through the work of British occultists like Peter J. Carroll and Ray Sherwin. These individuals were heavily influenced by earlier occultists such as Aleister Crowley and Austin Osman Spare. Spare introduced the idea that sigils (symbols charged with intent) could be empowered through the gnostic state, allowing magic to bypass the conscious mind.

Peter J. Carroll's book Liber Null became a foundational text for chaos magicians. His spiritual framework is explicitly anti-Christian, drawing from a mixture of Western occultism, Eastern mysticism, and individualistic philosophy. Carroll promoted belief in spiritual beings but rejected moral absolutes and objective truth, replacing them with relativism and personal empowerment.

Cultural and Religious Background

Chaos magic arose from Western esotericism, a mixture of Kabbalah, Thelema, Eastern practices, and modern psychology. It does not adhere to any one religious tradition but borrows from many. It treats gods, spirits, and symbols as tools rather than real deities, although practitioners acknowledge contact with spiritual entities. These are often interpreted as archetypes, energies, or thought forms.

In reality, the spirits contacted in chaos magic are not harmless archetypes—they are demons masquerading as helpful guides. The Bible says:

"And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." —2 Corinthians 11:14 (ESV)

Is Chaos Magic Demonic?

Yes. Chaos magic is deeply rooted in divination, ritual, and altered states of consciousness—means often used to contact demons and fallen angels. These spirits exploit the practitioner’s openness during the gnostic state. Whether one realizes it or not, participation in such practices invites spiritual oppression.

"Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God." —Leviticus 19:31 (ESV)

"The acts of the flesh are obvious: ... idolatry and witchcraft ... those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." —Galatians 5:19–21 (NIV)

Spiritual Consequences of Gnosis and Chaos Magic

Christians who dabble in chaos magic—intentionally or through ignorance—risk severe consequences. These may include:

  • Demonic torment: Night terrors, sleep paralysis, depression, or compulsions.

  • Spiritual confusion: Doubts, deception, and departure from biblical truth.

  • Loss of spiritual authority: Engaging in occult practices invites the enemy’s control.

Chaos magic cannot be separated from rebellion against God. It promotes the exaltation of self, relativism, and spiritual lawlessness. Scripture strongly warns against these paths:

"There shall not be found among you anyone ... who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer ... For whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord." —Deuteronomy 18:10–12 (ESV)

A Call to Repentance

There is hope if you’ve been involved in chaos magic or gnosis. Jesus Christ offers complete forgiveness and freedom. Repent and renounce all occult involvement. Ask the Holy Spirit to cleanse and restore you. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." —1 John 1:9 (ESV)

Conclusion

Chaos magic may promise power and change, but its source is demonic and deceptive. Christians are called to walk in the light and have no fellowship with the works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11). Gnosis in chaos magic is a counterfeit of biblical meditation, replacing God’s presence with self-exaltation and occult influence. Stay alert, discerning, and cling to the truth in God’s Word.XXXXXX

If you've been involved in a new age, occult, or cult, it can invite demonic spirits to torment you. If you feel tormented, you may need deliverance.
