Should Christians Talk to the Dead?

How about praying to the dead?

When we lose a loved one, it is hard, and we do miss them. The enemy can trick you into believing your loved one is making contact with you.

The Bible gives strong warning regarding talking to the dead. In the bible, it is known as Necromancy.

Definition of Necromancy:

Necromancy (/ˈnɛkrɵˌmænsi/) is a claimed form of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge. The term may sometimes be used more broadly to refer to black magic or witchcraft.

The word "necromancy" derives from the Ancient Greek νεκρός (nekrós), "dead body," and μαντεία (manteía), "prophecy or divination". The compound form νεκρομαντεία is itself post-classical, first used by Origen of Alexandria in the 3rd century CE. The classical Greek term is ἡ νέκυια (nekyia), νεκυιομαντεία in Hellenistic Greek, rendered as necyomantia in Latin, and as necyomancy in 17th century English.

Scriptures on Necromancy:

The Book of Deuteronomy (18:9–12) explicitly warns the Israelites against engaging in the Canaanite practice of divination from the dead:

9 "When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do according to the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you any one who maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or who useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, 11or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. 12For all who do these things are an abomination unto the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee (KJV)."

Example in the bible on Necromancy:

One of the foremost examples in the Bible is when King Saul had the Witch of Endor invoke the shade of Samuel, the judge and prophet, from Sheol using a ritual conjuring pit (1 Samuel 28:3–25).

Was it really Samuel or was it a demon portraying as Samuel?

The Bible strongly warns people not to consult mediums and spiritists for the truth, but to inquire of God (Isaiah 8:19). Clearly, if those who practiced these arts have any power (beyond being great deceivers), it is not a gift from God (as some falsely claim). The Bible condemns and forbids these practices several times (Deuteronomy 18:9-14; Isaiah 44:25; Jeremiah 27:9; 2 Kings 21:6; 23:24).

When someone claims to have received a "vision" of the dead, it's really a deception of the enemy -- demon forces at work. Luke chapter 16 contains excellent instruction on the state of the dead, referring to an impassable separation between the after-life and this world. Those in the next world, saved or otherwise, simply do not return to deliver messages to the living:

"[Lazarus] died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom," and the rich man died and suffered torment in Hades. A "great gulf" separated the two and was "fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence." (Luke 16:19-31)

Many Roman Catholics and others, lacking discernment* and knowledge of the Scriptures ("My people perish for lack of knowledge") -- and trusting the hierarchy of man -- fail to "test the spirits and see whether they be of God" (1 John 4:1). They assume the priests do that for them!

Leviticus 19:31 ESV

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

Isaiah 8:19 ES

And when they say to you, “Inquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?

Revelation 21:8 ESV

But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

2 Kings 21:6 ESV

And he burned his son as an offering and used fortune-telling and omens and dealt with mediums and with necromancers. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger.

Leviticus 20:6 ESV

“If a person turns to mediums and necromancers, whoring after them, I will set my face against that person and will cut him off from among his people.

1 Timothy 4:1 ESV

Leviticus 20:27 ESV

“A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.”

There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer or a charmer or a medium or a necromancer or one who inquires of the dead, for whoever does these things is an abomination to the Lord. And because of these abominations the Lord your God is driving them out before you.

Isaiah 19:3 ESV

And the spirit of the Egyptians within them will be emptied out, and I will confound their counsel; and they will inquire of the idols and the sorcerers, and the mediums and the necromancers.

Deliverance Prayers:

If you have been involved with necromancy, then take the time to repent to the Lord.

"Lord Jesus, forgive me for entertaining or speaking to the dead even if it was innocent. I realize I've been deceived and ask for your forgiveness for occultic practices, talking to the dead or conjuring up the dead to talk to them. I renounce and separate myself from all familiar spirits, however acquired. I call upon You, Lord, to deliver me from the lies and deceptions of familiar spirits. Teach me Your truth and Your ways. It is my earnest desire to walk in Your will and to glorify Your name. Amen."

"Satan, I renounce you, and I take back all the ground that I ever yielded to you. God is my source of wisdom, knowledge, guidance and power. You familiar spirit, leave me, in the name of Jesus."

"Thank you Lord Jesus for delivering me and cleansing me from all unrighteousness by Your precious blood. In Jesus' name. Amen."

Mind control is the process by which individual or collective freedom of choice and action is compromised by agents or agencies that modify or distort. People can be controlled through the beliefs and behaviors of others. Mind control is mind control demon spirits that put a person into bondage and are manipulated through demonic spirits.

Mind Control Octopus

Since they have eight tentacles, dreaming of an octopus could represent new beginnings. Negative: Seeing an octopus in a dream could represent a controlling spirit due to the tentacles. It could represent feeling trapped by a person or situation. (Exodus 2:14; Matthew 28:1; Exodus 2:14; Galatians 2:4). These octopus spirits can also mind control a person by clouding their judgment. They are evil demonic spirits.

Prayers of Deliverance from Mind Control Demons

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I repent and renounce for saying these words and believing these lies:

"If they get me, I will give in, which means they have me forever." I repent and renounce for saying or agreeing with them with these words as a vow, oath, or contract, which was mind control over me through witchcraft to drive me insane or to madness or put me in bondage to the cult. I declare to the heavens that even though they got me, they will not have me forever; I've been bought with a price and belong to Jesus Christ.

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I repent and renounce for saying and believing these words: “I am unable to function apart from serving the cult, Lucifer, or my husband, and I am unable to function independently from the” Father God, I declare and decree to the heavens that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I repent and renounce for saying or believing these words “if I leave the cult, I will go insane, lose my child, or go into a mental hospital.” I declare and decree I will not go insane, I will not lose my child, I will not go into a mental hospital if I leave the cult, and divorce my husband.

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I repent and renounce for saying "that if I divorce my husband, God will punish me." I declare and decree to the heavenly that God loves me and will not punish me for divorcing my husband.

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I repent for saying, "I cry out to God, but he does not come. He does not love me." Forgive me, Lord, for distrust and not believing in you.

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I repent and renounce for saying or believing the lie that if I am loyal to the cult or call on Lucifer, the pain will go away.” I repent and renounce for saying or agreeing. With them, these words were a vow, oath, or contract, which was mind control over me through witchcraft to drive me insane or to madness.

Father God, as you are my witness, I repent and renounce the spirit of doubt and unbelief in God. God is greater than Lucifer and Satan and all the cults of the world. Jesus Christ will reign forever and ever. I renounce the New World Order and my part in it. I'm not a slave to satan or to Lucifer. I am a child of the Lord most high. I renounce the antichrist, Lucifer, Satan, and all the cults and my involvement.

I come against these vows, oaths, covenants, or contracts used against me as mind control – and that each time I believed these or said these statements, it was programming me, creating a stronghold in my mind to cause me to go insane, madness or suicide or to return to the cult. Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, with the sword of the spirit, I cut all satanic soul ties and silver cords attached to me with the sword of the spirit.

I declare and decree that I will not go insane, go mad, go into a mental hospital, commit suicide, or go back to the cult. I am a child of the highest God. God is my deliverer. I recognize the cult uses fear tactics and lies to trap me. I repent and renounce for doubt and unbelief in Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I pull down these words or statements spoken over me or I spoke or agreed with as a vow, oath, covenant, or contract. I command these words to be null and void, and the mind control over my mind to be broken and have no power over me, and that the curses are also broken now in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I command every mind control demon, witchcraft Luciferian satanic spirit assigned to carry out this assignment of insanity or madness, and suicide, torment through pain to now go to dry places and have no more power over me or my mind now in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. I repent for believing and having hopelessness, doubt and unbelief, denial, oppression, depression, heaviness, insanity, or madness and ask you to forgive me and wash me clean and my mind clean and break the stronghold of thinking and break the mind control. I command every lying spirit, the spirit of hopelessness, doubt, and unbelief, denial spirits, to come up and out of me now. I command every spirit guide, dissociative spirit living in me to come up and out of me now that was pushing me to depression, heaviness, oppression, torment with pressure and pain, insanity, madness, control over my mind, destructive behaviors, and eventually to suicide for not returning to the cult. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, I command every curse or assignment to be broken now and broken off of my soul and mind.

Father, wash me now with your blood and wash every residue of these spirits off of me and off my mind. I break the power of mind control, insanity, madness, tormenting pain, demonic pressure, and suicide with these words and all record, replay, and programming of these words off of my mind and break the power of this mind control statement to be null and void. That these demons cannot touch me and that I have the mind of Christ. I bind and break all witchcraft, curses, spells, and powers - and through the Blood of the Lamb - destroy the works of every witch, warlock, wizard, sorcerer, and all other powers of darkness. including the influences of witchcraft, evil powers, spells, hexes, vexes, voodoo, hoodoo, roots, potions, or any such things - off of me.

Father, the God, forgive me for questioning you or trying to figure this out, and I recognize it is programming to reprogram me with mind control. I repent for doubt and unbelief and not trusting you and will praise your name and not entertain these words spoken.

False Light: Recognizing Deception in a Spiritually Confused World

Introduction

In a world filled with noise, confusion, and counterfeit spirituality, the Bible warns us that deception will increase in the last days. Jesus Himself said, “Take heed that no one deceives you” (Matthew 24:4). Spiritual deception is subtle, often cloaked in light, and can lead even sincere believers astray if they are not rooted in truth.

1. What Is Spiritual Deception?

Spiritual deception occurs when individuals or movements present teachings, practices, or experiences that appear godly but are contrary to the Word of God. Paul warned that “Satan himself transforms into an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14), meaning deception often looks good, feels right, and even uses spiritual language.

2. Biblical Warnings About Deception

Scripture is filled with warnings about false teachers, false prophets, and deceptive spirits:

1 Timothy 4:1 – “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.”
2 Peter 2:1 – “There will be false teachers among you... bringing in destructive heresies.”
Matthew 7:15 – “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

3. Modern Forms of Deception

Today, spiritual deception can take many forms:

New Age practices disguised as self-help or healing
False signs and wonders not rooted in biblical truth
Hyper-spiritual experiences that bypass Scripture
Doctrines that deny Christ’s divinity or the authority of the Bible

Even well-meaning Christians can fall into deception when they prioritize experience over Scripture or follow charismatic leaders without discernment.

4. How to Guard Against Deception

🔹 Stay Rooted in the Word

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
Daily reading and studying of Scripture is the strongest defense against deception.

🔹 Test Every Spirit

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” (1 John 4:1)

🔹 Stay in Fellowship

Isolation makes us vulnerable. God designed the Church to be a place of accountability, teaching, and protection.

🔹 Pray for Discernment

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and discernment. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God...” (James 1:5)

5. The Danger of Occult Practices

Practices like visualization, energy healing, or consulting spiritual guides may seem harmless or even helpful—but they often have roots in occultism. Engaging in these opens spiritual doors that can lead to oppression or confusion.

Deuteronomy 18:10-12 clearly warns against divination, sorcery, and consulting the dead, calling them “detestable to the Lord.”

6. Breaking Free from Deception

If you or someone you know has been involved in deceptive practices, there is hope and healing in Jesus Christ.

Steps to Freedom:

Repent – Acknowledge the sin and turn away from it (Acts 3:19).
Renounce – Verbally reject any involvement with false teachings or occult practices (2 Corinthians 4:2).
Receive Deliverance – Pray for freedom in Jesus’ name (Luke 10:19).
Renew Your Mind – Replace lies with truth through Scripture (Romans 12:2).

7. Final Encouragement

We are living in spiritually intense times. But God has not left us defenseless. He has given us His Word, His Spirit, and His people. Stay alert, stay grounded, and stay faithful.

“Let no one deceive you with empty words...” (Ephesians 5:6)
“Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.” (1 Corinthians 16:13)

Breaking Word Curses: Reclaiming Your Identity in Christ

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” — Proverbs 18:21

What Are Word Curses?

Word curses are negative, destructive statements spoken over someone—often by people in positions of influence or authority. These words can shape how we see ourselves, how we think, and how we live. When we believe these lies, they can become spiritual strongholds that hinder our identity, purpose, and relationship with God.

Examples of word curses include:

“You’ll never amount to anything.”
“You’re just like your father.”
“You’re cursed.”
“You’re a failure.”

Even if said in anger or jest, these words can open spiritual doors to oppression if not broken.

How Word Curses Gain Power

Words have power—especially when spoken by someone with spiritual or relational authority (parents, teachers, pastors, etc.). When we agree with these lies, even subconsciously, we give the enemy legal ground to influence our thoughts and emotions.

James 3:6 says, “The tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity... it sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell.”

Signs You May Be Under a Word Curse

Persistent negative self-talk
Fear of failure or rejection
Cycles of defeat or stagnation
Emotional heaviness or depression
Feeling “stuck” despite prayer and effort
Hearing the same negative phrase in your mind repeatedly

The Role of Forgiveness in Breaking Word Curses

Forgiveness is key. Jesus taught us to forgive “seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:22), not just for the offender’s sake—but for our freedom. Unforgiveness binds us to the pain and gives the enemy a foothold.

Ephesians 4:27 warns, “Do not give the devil a foothold.”

When you forgive the person who spoke the curse, you begin to sever the spiritual tie that empowered it.

Steps to Break Word Curses

1. Recognize the Curse

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any words spoken over you that are not aligned with God’s truth.

2. Renounce the Lie

Verbally reject the curse. Example:
“I renounce the lie that I am worthless. I am a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made.”

3. Forgive the Speaker

Say aloud:
“I forgive [Name] for speaking those words over me. I release them to God.”

4. Declare God’s Truth

Replace the lie with Scripture.

“I am more than a conqueror through Christ.” (Romans 8:37)
“I am God’s workmanship.” (Ephesians 2:10)
“I can do all things through Christ.” (Philippians 4:13)

5. Pray for Deliverance

Ask Jesus to break every curse and close every door opened by those words.
“In the name of Jesus, I break every word curse spoken over me. I cancel its power and declare freedom in Christ.”

Generational Word Curses

Sometimes, word curses are passed down through family lines—spoken by parents, grandparents, or even further back. These generational curses can manifest as patterns of failure, addiction, or broken relationships.

Exodus 20:5 speaks of iniquity visiting “the third and fourth generation,” but Galatians 3:13 reminds us that “Christ has redeemed us from the curse.”

You can break these by praying:
“I break every generational word curse spoken over my family. I declare that I am a new creation in Christ.”

Demonic Manifestation and Word Curses

When word curses are believed and internalized, they can open doors to demonic oppression. This may manifest as:

Nightmares or sleep paralysis
Chronic fear or anxiety
Self-harm or suicidal thoughts
Addictions or compulsive behaviors
Hearing accusatory voices

These are not just psychological—they can be spiritual. But Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18).

Freedom Through Christ

Jesus has already paid the price for your freedom. You don’t have to live under the weight of someone else’s words. Through repentance, forgiveness, and the power of the Holy Spirit, you can walk in healing and wholeness.

“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

How to Overcome Guilt: A Biblical Path to Freedom

From Shame to Grace: Conquering Guilt with God’s Truth

Guilt is a powerful emotion—but it’s also a spiritual weapon the enemy uses to keep believers trapped in shame, fear, and defeat. Many people live under the weight of guilt for things they’ve done—or things done to them. But the good news is this: Jesus came to set us free.

Where Does Guilt Come From?

Guilt that leads to repentance is from God. But guilt that leads to shame, hiding, and self-hatred is not. That kind of guilt is a spiritual attack.
Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
Satan is called “the accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:10). He constantly reminds us of our past, hoping we’ll believe the lie that we’re too broken, too sinful, or too far gone for God’s love.

The Spirit of Guilt and Its Effects

Guilt can become a spiritual stronghold. It can manifest as:
Constant self-condemnation
Fear of failure or rejection
Avoidance of prayer or church
Addictions used to numb emotional pain
Depression, anxiety, or self-harm
Feeling unworthy of God’s love
These are not just emotional—they can be demonic manifestations rooted in lies and spiritual bondage.

Guilt from Others: Manipulation and Control

Some people live under guilt because of others. A controlling parent, spouse, or religious leader may use guilt to manipulate behavior. This is not love—it’s spiritual abuse.
If you feel guilty every time something goes wrong—even when it’s not your fault—you may be under a spirit of guilt. This spirit can be generational, passed down through family lines, or transferred through unhealthy relationships.

The Vicious Cycle of Guilt and Escape

When guilt becomes unbearable, people often turn to temporary relief: gambling, pornography, substance abuse, or other addictions. These behaviors release a short-term chemical high—but the guilt returns, worse than before.
This cycle keeps people in bondage. But Jesus offers a better way.

God’s Heart Toward the Guilty

God is not waiting to punish you—He’s waiting to restore you.
Psalm 103:12 says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.”
1 John 1:9 promises, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

How to Overcome Guilt

1. Confess and Repent

Go to Jesus. Confess your sins honestly. He already knows—and He’s ready to forgive.

2. Forgive Yourself

This is often the hardest part. But if God has forgiven you, who are you to hold it against yourself?

3. Renounce the Spirit of Guilt

If guilt continues to torment you, it may be a spirit. Say aloud:
“I renounce the spirit of guilt in Jesus’ name. I receive God’s forgiveness and truth.”
2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to “take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”

4. Break Generational Guilt

If guilt runs in your family, pray:
“I break every generational curse of guilt and shame. I am a new creation in Christ.”

5. Reject Manipulation

If someone uses guilt to control you, recognize it. You don’t need to perform for people to be accepted. You are already accepted by Jesus.

Scriptures to Stand On

Romans 8:1 – No condemnation in Christ
Isaiah 1:18 – “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow.”
Hebrews 10:22 – “Let us draw near with a true heart... having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience.”
John 8:36 – “Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.”

Final Encouragement

Guilt is not your identity. You are not your past. You are not your mistakes. You are a child of God, washed by the blood of Jesus, and made new.
Don’t let the enemy keep you in shame. Run to Jesus. He’s not angry—He’s waiting with open arms.
