How Mind Dynamics and NLP Can Open Doors to Demonic Influence

The Dark Side of Mind Dynamics: A Christian Perspective on NLP and Subconscious Practices

In the world of personal development, Mind Dynamics and its related modalities such as NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), hypnosis, and timeline therapy promise breakthroughs in self-improvement, mental focus, and even control over one's destiny. At face value, these practices seem beneficial—harmless tools to retrain the brain and align with success. But beneath the surface lies a darker spiritual root Christians must not ignore.

These techniques don't just manipulate thought patterns; they often tamper with the subconscious mind, the very place where strongholds, inner vows, and demonic agreements may already exist. Before engaging with Mind Dynamics, it’s vital to ask key questions that reveal the spiritual origin of the practice.

⚠️ What Is Mind Dynamics?

Mind Dynamics is often defined as the use of subconscious mind techniques to gain total control over your thoughts, habits, behaviors, and destiny. It borrows from psychology, hypnosis, suggestion, and New Age visualization techniques. The goal? To bypass conscious resistance and implant new beliefs that drive action.

But Christians must ask: What spirit is guiding that change?

🔍 Discernment Questions Every Christian Must Ask:

As with any practice outside the Word of God, spiritual discernment is key. Use these filters before engaging in or endorsing a modality like NLP or Mind Dynamics:

1. Who Founded This Modality?

Mind Dynamics was heavily influenced by the teachings of Jose Silva, founder of the Silva Mind Control Method, and Werner Erhard, who developed EST (Erhard Seminars Training) and later influenced NLP. Silva openly practiced psychic development and spiritism, even encouraging contact with "spirit guides."

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) was co-developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the 1970s. Bandler had ties to psychology and the occult and was later associated with a murder investigation. Grinder was a linguist who drew from hypnosis, especially the teachings of Milton Erickson, a medical hypnotist.

2. What Was Their Spirituality?

The founders of these techniques were not grounded in biblical Christianity. In fact, many of their practices stem from New Age, occult, and Eastern philosophies. Meditation, altered states, visualization of spirit guides, and psychic exercises are common elements across these modalities.

As believers, we’re warned in 1 Timothy 4:1:

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils."

3. What Culture Did It Come From?

Mind Dynamics, NLP, and hypnosis stem from a secular, performance-driven culture that elevates the self above the Spirit of God. This “self-as-god” ideology is deeply rooted in Gnosticism, which teaches that man contains divine power and simply needs enlightenment to unlock it.

But Scripture tells us the opposite:

“Apart from Me you can do nothing.” – John 15:5

4. What Are Their Beliefs?

These systems teach that by mastering your subconscious, you can manifest anything you want—wealth, health, relationships. This belief mirrors the New Age “Law of Attraction,” where your thoughts create your reality. The focus is on speaking positive affirmations into existence, rather than submitting to God’s will.

Biblical faith isn’t about controlling outcomes but trusting the sovereignty of God.

5. Who Is Their God or gods?

If Christ is not the source, then what is? The "higher power" invoked in these teachings is vague, impersonal, and often disguised as universal energy, the higher self, or a spirit guide. Scripture warns against counterfeit spirits:

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God.” – 1 John 4:1

🧠 How NLP and Hypnosis Open Spiritual Gates

When you submit your subconscious to someone trained in hypnosis or NLP, you're yielding part of your mind and will. This opens you to the risk of soul fragmentation, mind-binding spirits, or even demonic implantation.

Many believers have undergone “breakthrough sessions” only to find themselves more confused, spiritually tormented, or emotionally unstable days later. Why? Because they bypassed godly counsel and embraced man-made shortcuts to inner healing.

Even when these sessions seem "successful," they often create false peace and emotional dependency, rather than leading someone to the cross of Christ.

✝️ True Renewal Comes Through Jesus

Romans 12:2 commands us to "be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This renewal doesn’t come through hypnosis or secular mind hacks. It comes by the washing of the Word, prayer, and surrendering our wounds to the Great Physician.

Instead of NLP scripts and affirmations, we declare God’s Word over our life.

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.” – 2 Corinthians 10:4

🔥 Deliverance Starts with Discernment

We are in the last days. The enemy is no longer hiding his tactics. He’s rebranding witchcraft, hypnosis, and divination under attractive names like “mind training,” “manifestation,” and “neuro-hacking.”

If you’ve unknowingly participated in NLP, hypnosis, or mind dynamics, repent and renounce those soul ties in prayer. Break the demonic covenants that may have been formed and ask the Holy Spirit to restore your soul.
