Therapeutic Touch and Thought Transference: A Biblical Warning About Counterfeit Healing, Energy Transfer, and Psychic Communication
What Is Therapeutic Touch?
Therapeutic Touch, often called TT, is a New Age energy-healing technique developed in the early 1970s by Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz. It is often presented as a healing practice where a practitioner uses their hands near or over a person’s body to sense, balance, clear, direct, or transfer energy.
Although the name includes the word “touch,” many Therapeutic Touch sessions do not involve physical touch. The practitioner may move their hands above the body, claiming to work with the person’s “human energy field.”
Therapeutic Touch may use terms such as:
- Energy healing
- Human energy field
- Prana
- Life-force energy
- Healing energy
- Energy balancing
- Energy transfer
- Clearing energy congestion
- Centering
- Non-contact healing
- Intuitive healing
- Subtle energy
- Aura work
Some people present Therapeutic Touch as a modern version of the biblical “laying on of hands.” However, it is not the same thing.
Biblical laying on of hands is done through prayer, faith, obedience, and the authority of Jesus Christ.
Therapeutic Touch is based on energy manipulation, human energy fields, prana, intention, and a practitioner’s ability to direct or balance unseen energy.
That is not the Holy Spirit.
What Is Thought Transference?
Thought transference is the supposed transfer of thoughts, ideas, impressions, images, or mental messages from the mind of one person to another by extrasensory or psychic means.
It is closely related to telepathy.
In occult and New Age circles, thought transference may be called:
- Mind-to-mind communication
- Psychic communication
- Thought sending
- Thought receiving
- Mental projection
- Psychic messages
- Mental influence
- Spirit-guided communication
- Twin flame communication
- Energy-based communication
From a biblical perspective, thought transference becomes spiritually dangerous when a person seeks hidden knowledge, psychic messages, or supernatural communication apart from God.
The Holy Spirit does not need psychic methods to speak.
Where Did Therapeutic Touch Come From?
Therapeutic Touch was developed in the early 1970s by Dolores Krieger, a nursing professor, and Dora Kunz, who was connected to Theosophical spirituality and known as a natural healer. It was introduced into nursing and holistic health settings as a method of energy-based healing.
Therapeutic Touch was promoted as an adaptation of laying on of hands, but its foundation is not biblical. It uses concepts such as prana, human energy fields, energy balancing, centering, and intentional energy transfer.
The biblical laying on of hands depends on God.
Therapeutic Touch depends on energy concepts and the practitioner’s ability to manipulate or transfer energy.
Where Did Thought Transference Come From?
The idea of thought transference has been connected to psychic research, spiritualism, occultism, New Age beliefs, ESP, telepathy, and paranormal practices. It became popular through movements that taught people could communicate mind-to-mind or receive messages without normal communication.
There is no biblical instruction for Christians to practice thought transference.
God never told His people to send thoughts, receive psychic impressions, open their minds to mental communication, or seek extrasensory messages.
He told us to seek Him.
Is Therapeutic Touch the Same as Biblical Laying on of Hands?
No.
Biblical laying on of hands is seen in Scripture for healing, blessing, impartation, prayer, commissioning, and ministry. It is done under God’s authority and in faith toward Jesus Christ.
Therapeutic Touch is different because it is based on:
- Energy fields
- Prana
- Centering
- Energy clearing
- Energy balancing
- Aura-like concepts
- Intention-based healing
- Practitioner-directed energy
The Bible never teaches believers to scan the body for energy fields, clear energy blockages, direct prana, or transfer life-force energy.
The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal energy force.
The Holy Spirit is God.
Why Are Therapeutic Touch and Thought Transference Against God’s Word?
These practices are against God’s Word when they seek healing, hidden knowledge, supernatural communication, or spiritual power outside of Jesus Christ.
1. They Replace God With Energy or Psychic Power
Therapeutic Touch looks to energy transfer and human energy fields. Thought transference looks to psychic communication. Both can train people to rely on a counterfeit source instead of God.
2. They Can Open Doors to Familiar Spirits
Psychic impressions, mental messages, and energy healing may feel spiritual, but that does not mean they are from God.
3. They Can Become Witchcraft
Trying to transfer energy, manipulate a person’s field, send thoughts, or influence someone mentally can become spiritual manipulation.
4. They Confuse the Holy Spirit With Occult Power
The Holy Spirit heals, leads, and speaks according to the Word of God. He does not need New Age energy techniques or psychic transmission.
5. They Create Spiritual Agreements
Receiving energy work or participating in psychic communication can create agreement with spirits behind those practices.
What Does the Bible Say?
Deuteronomy 18:10–12
“There shall not be found among you any one that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD.”
Leviticus 19:31
“Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God.”
Isaiah 8:19
“Should not a people seek unto their God?”
Acts 16:16–18
A young woman had a spirit of divination. She had supernatural information, but the source was demonic. Paul cast the spirit out in the name of Jesus Christ.
James 5:14–15
Biblical healing involves prayer, faith, and the Lord—not energy manipulation.
1 Timothy 5:22
“Lay hands suddenly on no man…”
This shows that spiritual contact and impartation are serious. Christians should be careful who lays hands on them and what spirit is operating.
Why Would Someone Get Involved?
People may get involved in Therapeutic Touch or thought transference for many reasons.
1. Desire for Healing
Pain, sickness, trauma, grief, and desperation can cause people to try spiritual methods outside of God.
2. Medical or Holistic Settings
Therapeutic Touch may be offered in wellness centers, nursing environments, hospice settings, or alternative medicine programs.
3. Curiosity
People may wonder if energy healing or psychic communication is real.
4. Spiritual Hunger
Some people want spiritual experiences but do not know how to seek Jesus Christ.
5. Desire for Power
Thought transference can appeal to those who want influence, control, or supernatural ability.
6. Relationship Obsession
Some people try thought transference to connect with an ex, a romantic partner, or a so-called twin flame.
7. New Age Deception
These practices are often promoted alongside Reiki, chakras, crystals, yoga, manifestation, spirit guides, and energy healing.
8. Counterfeit Compassion
Therapeutic Touch may appear loving and caring, but compassion does not make an occult method biblical.
How Can These Practices Hurt a Christian?
Therapeutic Touch and thought transference can hurt a Christian by opening doors to:
- Divination
- Familiar spirits
- Witchcraft
- Psychic spirits
- False healing spirits
- New Age spirits
- Mind-binding spirits
- Mind control
- Fear
- Confusion
- Deception
- Spiritual heaviness
- False peace
- Counterfeit healing
- Occult bondage
- Ungodly soul ties
- Emotional obsession
- Difficulty praying
- Difficulty reading the Bible
- Loss of discernment
- Dependence on energy workers or psychic messages
A Christian may feel temporary relief after energy work, but temporary relief does not prove the source is God.
The question is not only, “Did I feel better?”
The question is, “What spirit was behind it?”
Can Therapeutic Touch Transfer Spirits?
From a deliverance perspective, yes. When a practitioner claims to transfer, balance, clear, or direct energy into or around a person, there can be spiritual transfer.
If the practitioner is operating through New Age energy, familiar spirits, false healing spirits, or occult power, the recipient may come under spiritual contamination.
That is why Christians must be careful with healing sessions, energy work, and who lays hands on them.
Not every hand is holy.
Not every healing method is from God.
Can Thought Transference Open Doors to Familiar Spirits?
Yes. What a person believes is mind-to-mind communication may actually be familiar spirits giving impressions, thoughts, images, dreams, or counterfeit messages.
Familiar spirits can imitate knowledge, connection, or insight. They may create a false sense of spiritual communication in order to draw a person deeper into occult bondage.
A Christian should not seek mental messages. A Christian should seek the Lord.
Is Therapeutic Touch Harmless If It Helps Someone Relax?
No. Feeling relaxed, peaceful, or comforted does not prove something is from God.
Many occult practices can create temporary peace while opening long-term bondage.
Counterfeit healing can bring:
- False peace
- Spiritual heaviness later
- Emotional dependency
- Confusion
- Dreams or manifestations
- Continued sickness
- Demonic oppression
- Dependence on energy work
Jesus Christ brings true healing and freedom.
Is Thought Transference the Same as Discernment?
No.
Discernment comes from the Holy Spirit and helps believers recognize truth from error and distinguish between the Holy Spirit and false spirits.
Thought transference attempts to send or receive thoughts through psychic or extrasensory means.
Discernment submits to God.
Thought transference can open the mind to unknown spiritual communication.
What Spirits Can Be Connected to These Practices?
From a deliverance perspective, these practices may open doors to:
- Familiar spirits
- Divination
- Witchcraft
- Python
- False healing spirits
- Psychic spirits
- Spirit guides
- New Age spirits
- Mind-binding spirits
- Mind control
- Kundalini
- Serpent spirits
- Deception
- Fear
- Confusion
- Pride
- Rebellion
- Twin flame deception
- Spirit spouse
- Lust
- Seduction
- Occult bondage
What Curses or Bondages Can Come Through These Practices?
1. Curse of Divination
Seeking hidden knowledge through psychic or extrasensory means can open the door to divination.
2. Curse of Familiar Spirits
Psychic impressions and mental messages may come from familiar spirits.
3. Curse of Witchcraft
Energy manipulation, thought sending, or mental influence can become witchcraft.
4. Curse of False Healing
Receiving healing through energy manipulation can open the door to counterfeit healing spirits.
5. Curse of Confusion
A person may struggle to tell the difference between God’s voice, their own thoughts, and demonic impressions.
6. Curse of Fear
These practices may bring anxiety, paranoia, nightmares, or spiritual dread.
7. Curse of Soul Ties
Thought transference connected to romantic obsession can strengthen ungodly soul ties.
8. Generational Occult Bondage
If psychic practices, energy healing, witchcraft, mediumship, or divination run in the family line, these practices may connect to familiar spirits.
Signs You May Need Deliverance
You may need deliverance if after involvement you experience:
- Hearing thoughts or voices
- Intrusive thoughts
- Mental torment
- Fear or paranoia
- Obsession with a person
- Feeling mentally invaded
- Strange dreams or nightmares
- Dreams about healers, spirits, or energy
- Heat, shaking, or energy moving in the body
- Feeling drained after sessions
- Confusion about God’s voice
- Strong pull toward occult practices
- Difficulty praying
- Difficulty reading Scripture
- Loss of peace

2. Renounce It
Renounce every practice and spirit connected to it.
3. Break Agreements
Break agreement with psychic power, energy transfer, familiar spirits, spirit guides, false healing, and occult practices.

I break every ungodly soul tie with every practitioner, teacher, healer, romantic partner, twin flame, spiritual group, and false healing system connected to these practices.
I cancel every psychic message, projected thought, energy transfer, false healing, spiritual impartation, curse, ritual, vow, dedication, and demonic assignment connected to these practices.
I command every demon that entered through Therapeutic Touch, thought transference, energy healing, psychic communication, spirit guides, witchcraft, divination, or occult healing to leave me now in the name of Jesus Christ.
I close every open door. I break every legal right. I cancel every assignment of darkness.
Lord Jesus, wash my mind, body, soul, spirit, emotions, memories, dreams, and spiritual senses in Your blood.
Fill me with the Holy Spirit. Restore my peace, discernment, sound mind, and trust in Your Word.
I declare that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. I reject psychic power. I reject energy healing. I reject counterfeit healing. I seek the Holy Spirit alone.
In Jesus Christ’s name, amen.
