Unmasking Creative Visualization: Origins, Beliefs, and Spiritual Dangers

Unmasking Creative Visualization: Origins, Beliefs, and Spiritual Dangers

Unmasking Creative Visualization: Origins, Beliefs, and Spiritual Dangers

Creative Visualization: A New Age Trap or a Gateway to Truth?

Creative visualization is a popular mental technique used by many in the self-help and New Age movements. It involves using one’s imagination to create vivid mental images of goals, desires, or outcomes, with the belief that these images can influence reality. Whether it's visualizing a dream home, a new career, better health, or even relationships, proponents of creative visualization claim that the process attracts these things into one's life through the power of thought and intention.

But is this just harmless daydreaming with purpose, or is there more going on beneath the surface? And more importantly, should Christians be using this practice at all?

What is Creative Visualization?

At its core, creative visualization is the practice of using guided imagery and focused thought to “manifest” a particular desire. Practitioners believe that by vividly imagining something—be it success, a physical object, or a life situation—they can influence the universe to deliver it. This technique is said to tap into the so-called “law of attraction,” a concept suggesting that thoughts are magnetic and can draw in corresponding experiences.

The process is often compared to daydreaming, but with intentionality and repetition. Visualization exercises are typically done in a quiet, relaxed state, sometimes accompanied by music or affirmations. People might visualize themselves already owning a car, living in a new house, or receiving a promotion—feeling the emotions as if it were real.

Where Did Creative Visualization Come From?

As it is known today, creative visualization was popularized mainly in the 1970s by Shakti Gawain, a prominent figure in the New Age movement. Her book Creative Visualization, published in 1978, introduced millions to shaping reality with the mind. Gawain’s work was influenced by Eastern philosophies, including Hinduism and Buddhism, and incorporated metaphysical principles.

Although visualization techniques have been used in various forms throughout history, Gawain synthesized them into a system that merged spirituality with self-help. She believed that we are co-creators of our reality and that tapping into universal energies through thought and intention was a path to personal empowerment and enlightenment.

The Belief System Behind Creative Visualization

The underlying worldview of creative visualization is rooted in New Thought and Eastern religions. These systems often believe that God is an impersonal force and that humans are divine or contain the divine within themselves. In this framework, the mind is considered a powerful tool capable of altering external reality. There’s a strong emphasis on self-empowerment, inner divinity, and the belief that the universe responds to one's thoughts and emotions.

This starkly contrasts the biblical view of God as a personal, sovereign Creator who alone governs the universe and answers prayer according to His will—not our mental images or desires.

How Does It Work?

According to its advocates, creative visualization aligns your thoughts with the “frequency” of what you desire. Repeated visualization supposedly trains the subconscious mind to believe the desired reality is already true, manifesting through subtle shifts in behavior, opportunity, and “universal alignment.”

Some suggest this mechanism is purely psychological, driven by the brain's focus and motivation. Others insist it taps into spiritual or energetic laws that respond to human intention. Either way, it’s portrayed as a tool anyone can use—regardless of faith—to manipulate their reality.

Why Christians Should Steer Clear

While creative visualization may seem harmless, even helpful, it poses serious spiritual dangers for Christians. At its core, it promotes a worldview that contradicts biblical truth in multiple ways:

  1. It removes dependence on God – Creative visualization encourages people to look inward, not upward. It teaches self-reliance instead of trust in God's will.

  2. It distorts the nature of God – The practice often assumes God (if acknowledged at all) is a neutral energy or force to be manipulated, not a personal, holy, sovereign Lord.

  3. It promotes idolatry – Visualization makes the fulfillment of personal desires the ultimate goal, which can easily become a form of idol worship.

  4. It opens doors to spiritual deception – Engaging in New Age practices can make people vulnerable to deceptive spiritual experiences that lead them further from Christ.

Possible Consequences of Using Creative Visualization

For Christians, dabbling in creative visualization can have more than just theological consequences—it can lead to emotional, mental, and spiritual torment. Many report feelings of anxiety, confusion, or obsession when things don’t manifest as visualized. Others may begin experiencing unexplainable spiritual oppression or disturbances, especially if visualization is paired with meditation or energy practices.

Because this technique can serve as a spiritual gateway, it may expose individuals to deceptive influences, including false spirits masquerading as guides or inner voices. What begins as a positive self-help journey can turn into a path of bondage and spiritual disconnection.

Could It Open the Door to Torment?

Yes. You open a door when you engage in practices that invite non-biblical spiritual forces—knowingly or unknowingly—. The Bible warns us to test every spirit (1 John 4:1) and to avoid practices rooted in divination, sorcery, and idolatry. While visualization is not overtly occult, it shares roots and methods with occult practices, including believing in mind power, energetic fields, and manifestation.

Many former New Age practitioners who are now Christians have testified about how visualization and other "harmless" techniques became spiritual strongholds that led to confusion, fear, and even demonic oppression.

The Biblical Alternative

Instead of visualizing your will into being, Scripture teaches us to submit to God's will and trust in His perfect plan. Philippians 4:6-7 urges believers to bring their requests to God through prayer and thanksgiving—not imagination. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not lean on our own understanding.

Rather than trying to “manifest” outcomes, Christians are called to walk in faith, obedience, and contentment, seeking first the Kingdom of God and allowing Him to add all things in His timing (Matthew 6:33).

Methods of discernment:

• Who was the founder of this modality?

• What was his/her spirituality?

• What culture did it come out of?

• What were their beliefs?

• Who is their God or gods?

Many occult practices in Christianity need to be discerned.  Another method of discernment is the Word of God. The word of God is our measuring stick. The more we read the word, know the word, and have a relationship with the Lord, the more we discern right and wrong. We perish from a lack of knowledge.

Hosea 4:6 declares, “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.”

A Course in Miracles: A Spiritual Trap

A Course in Miracles: A Spiritual Trap Disguised as Light

A Course in Miracles: A Spiritual Trap Disguised as Light

What Is A Course in Miracles?

A Course in Miracles (often abbreviated as ACIM) is a metaphysical, self-study spiritual text that claims to teach individuals how to attain inner peace through forgiveness and self-awareness. The book has gained popularity in spiritual and New Age circles and is often touted as a modern revelation of universal spiritual truth.

On the surface, it appears to promote principles like love, peace, and forgiveness. However, beneath its serene vocabulary lies a theology that directly contradicts the core doctrines of Christianity. ACIM denies the existence of sin, the need for Christ’s atoning sacrifice, and even the reality of evil and the devil. It teaches that salvation lies in awakening to the illusion of separation from God—not in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Origin and Founder of A Course in Miracles

The book was "channeled" by Dr. Helen Schucman, a clinical and research psychologist at Columbia University. In 1965, Schucman began hearing an inner voice, which she identified as Jesus. Over the next seven years, she dictated what she heard to her colleague Dr. William Thetford, who transcribed the material. The result was a nearly 1,200-page volume divided into a Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers.

Schucman was not a believer in the biblical Jesus, nor did she claim to be a Christian. In fact, she later expressed discomfort and disconnection with the material she transcribed. Despite attributing the voice to "Jesus," it was not the Jesus of Scripture, but a redefined, metaphysical figure more aligned with Gnostic, Eastern, and New Age teachings.

What A Course in Miracles Teaches

ACIM’s foundational claims include:

  • Sin is an illusion

  • The crucifixion did not actually happen

  • There is no devil or evil

  • All people are inherently divine and one with God

  • Salvation is found in awakening to one’s divine mind, not in Jesus’ sacrifice

The book reinterprets Christian terms but empties them of biblical meaning. For example, “Christ” is seen as a universal consciousness, not the incarnate Son of God. “Forgiveness” is redefined not as canceling a moral debt, but as recognizing that no offense ever truly occurred.

The Religion and Belief System Behind ACIM

A Course in Miracles is firmly rooted in New Age spirituality, which borrows from Hinduism, Buddhism, Gnosticism, and occult traditions. It upholds monism (all is one), pantheism (God is everything), and universalism (all paths lead to God).

It rejects the personal, relational God of the Bible, and instead promotes an impersonal force that can be accessed through enlightenment or self-realization.

This theology contradicts the central tenets of Christianity:

  • The sinful nature of humanity

  • The need for repentance

  • The atonement of Jesus on the cross

  • The existence of Satan and spiritual warfare

  • The final judgment and the reality of hell

How A Course in Miracles Works

The structure of ACIM is designed for daily use. Its Workbook for Students contains 365 lessons, one for each day of the year. These lessons are meant to train the mind in a new perception of reality—essentially, to deconstruct what the Course calls "ego-based" thinking and replace it with the "true" understanding of divine oneness.

This is not just a book; it’s a discipleship system—a spiritual formation tool that gradually reshapes the reader’s worldview.

Why Christians Must Avoid A Course in Miracles

Though it uses Christian terminology, ACIM is spiritually deceptive. Christians are warned throughout Scripture not to be taken in by false teachers and counterfeit gospels:

“Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse.” (Galatians 1:8)

Here are compelling reasons why Christians should not engage with ACIM:

  1. It Denies Core Biblical Truths
ACIM undermines the cross, sin, and the authority of Scripture. It replaces Christ’s redemptive work with self-awakening.

  2. It Comes from a Spirit Other Than the Holy Spirit
Schucman claimed to channel a spiritual entity—this is mediumship, which the Bible strictly forbids (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

  3. It Opens Doors to Spiritual Deception and Torment
Many users report confusion, emotional instability, and even occult experiences after deep involvement with ACIM. It introduces false light that can lead to mental torment, spiritual blindness, and bondage.

  4. It Draws People Away From Jesus Christ
Though it names "Jesus," it offers a counterfeit version. The more someone engages with ACIM, the more they are led away from the real Jesus revealed in Scripture.

Spiritual Consequences of Following ACIM

What begins as a search for inner peace can become a descent into spiritual darkness. ACIM:

  • Leads to confusion about God’s nature

  • Blurs the line between good and evil

  • Disconnects people from biblical authority

  • Can invite demonic influence or torment under the guise of enlightenment

  • Subtly encourages self-deification, making the individual their own savior

Many former ACIM followers have testified to emotional breakdowns, paranormal encounters, and mental instability—until they renounced it and turned to Christ.

Ministers and Teachers Promoting A Course in Miracles

Several high-profile spiritual teachers and ministers blend ACIM with their teachings, often under the banner of "Christianity" or "spiritual empowerment." These include:

  • Marianne Williamson – A spiritual teacher, author, and former political candidate, widely considered the most public proponent of ACIM.

  • Gabrielle Bernstein – A popular speaker and author who incorporates ACIM principles in her New Age teachings.

  • Oprah Winfrey – Though not a minister, Oprah has platformed ACIM through interviews and endorsements, influencing millions of spiritual seekers.

Some progressive churches or “spiritual centers” may incorporate ACIM teachings under the guise of inclusion or spiritual evolution, leading congregants away from biblical truth.

A Clear Warning and a Better Way

Jesus warned us in Matthew 24:24:

“For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”

The deceptive power of A Course in Miracles is that it looks like light—but it isn’t the Light of Christ. Christians must be discerning and avoid such teachings.

Instead, turn to the Word of God, where truth is unchanging, powerful, and anchored in the love of Christ. The true Jesus offers not just mental peace but eternal life, real freedom, and victory over sin and darkness.

Deception Disguised as Light: The Dark Side of Divination

Deception Disguised as Light: The Dark Side of Divination

Deception Disguised as Light: The Dark Side of Divination

Divination: Ancient Art or Spiritual Danger? What Every Christian Should Know

What Is Divination?

Divination is the art, practice, or gift of discerning or discovering future events or hidden knowledge through perceived supernatural means. It is a mystical practice dating back thousands of years and is deeply rooted in many ancient cultures. From the temples of Egypt and the oracle chambers of Greece to the royal courts of China and Babylon, divination was used to seek guidance, make political decisions, and uncover hidden truths.

Despite its seemingly mystical allure, divination has spiritual implications—especially from a Christian perspective—that warrant serious reflection and caution.

Examples of Divination Modalities

Divination encompasses a variety of tools and techniques. Some of the most commonly practiced forms include:

  • Tarot Cards: A deck of 78 cards used for divining spiritual insight and future outcomes. Each card holds symbolic imagery and archetypes believed to communicate messages from the spiritual realm.

  • Astrology: The study of celestial bodies' positions to interpret personality traits, predict events, or offer life guidance.

  • Palm Reading (Chiromancy): Interpreting the lines, shapes, and mounts of the hand to reveal information about a person’s character or destiny.

  • Runes: Stones or pieces of wood engraved with ancient letters or symbols, used for casting and interpreting outcomes.

  • Crystal Ball Gazing (Scrying): Using a reflective surface like a crystal ball or mirror to receive visions or impressions.

  • Pendulum Dowsing: A method in which a pendulum is used to answer yes/no questions based on its directional movement.

  • I Ching: An ancient Chinese system of divination based on a book of wisdom composed of 64 hexagrams.

These modalities all share a common goal: to gain insight beyond the natural realm, often bypassing divine authority.

The Purpose and Origins of Divination

The primary purpose of divination is to access hidden knowledge—about the future, one’s destiny, or spiritual matters—through supernatural or spiritual means. While often seen as empowering, this pursuit can shift dependency from God to other sources.

Historically, divination has no single founder. Instead, it evolved independently across various ancient civilizations:

  • Babylonian and Mesopotamian priests practiced hepatoscopy—reading animal livers for omens.

  • The Greeks consulted oracles like the Oracle of Delphi, believed to speak for Apollo.

  • The Chinese used oracle bones and the I Ching as early as 1200 BC.

  • Egyptians used dreams and astrology to discern divine will.

These systems were often rooted in polytheistic religions. Their practitioners believed in communicating with multiple gods, ancestral spirits, or cosmic forces, contrary to the monotheistic worship of the God of the Bible.

Divination and Religion: Worldviews in Contrast

Many divination systems are intertwined with pagan, Eastern, or New Age belief systems. These worldviews often emphasize:

  • Pantheism: The belief that the divine exists in everything.

  • Reincarnation and karma: Concepts from Eastern religions.

  • Spirit guides: Beings believed to assist humans spiritually.

  • Gnosis: Esoteric or hidden knowledge as a path to enlightenment.

These beliefs contrast sharply with Christian doctrine, which centers on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, salvation by grace, and the authority of Scripture.

How Divination Works (or Seems To)

Divination operates on the assumption that certain tools or practices can channel messages from spiritual sources. Practitioners claim to receive guidance from:

  • The “universe” or “higher self”

  • Spirit guides

  • Ancestral spirits

  • Unknown supernatural forces

Some results may appear accurate or eerily specific, creating a false sense of trust. However, the Bible teaches that not all spiritual knowledge comes from God. The enemy can disguise himself as light (2 Corinthians 11:14), and deceptive experiences may lead people further from the truth.

Why Christians Should Avoid Divination

The Bible is explicit in its condemnation of divination. This means those who practice divination or go to someone to know their future. In Deuteronomy 18:10-12, God warns His people:

“Let no one be found among you who... practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft... Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.”

Here are reasons Christians should avoid divination:

  1. It Opens Spiritual Doors
Engaging in divination invites spiritual influences outside of God's authority. This can lead to demonic oppression, torment, and confusion.

  2. It Replaces Dependence on God
Seeking answers from tarot cards or astrology creates a reliance on man-made systems instead of the Holy Spirit. This is a form of idolatry.

  3. It Can Lead to Mental and Emotional Distress
Many people report anxiety, depression, or fear after engaging with divination. Rather than bringing peace, it often stirs inner turmoil.

  4. It Can Lead You Away From Christ
As one becomes spiritually entangled, it becomes harder to hear God’s voice. One may become desensitized to sin, leading to spiritual apathy or rebellion.

Can Divination Lead to Torment?

Yes. While it may begin as a harmless curiosity, divination can act as a gateway to spiritual bondage. People who repeatedly dabble in divination often experience:

  • Nightmares or sleep disturbances

  • Hearing voices

  • Paranoia or fear

  • A sense of being watched or oppressed

Many Christian deliverance ministers testify that these symptoms are not just psychological, but spiritual. These manifestations often lift when the individual repents and renounces involvement with occult practices.

Freedom Through Christ

If you’ve engaged in divination, there is hope. Jesus came to set captives free (Luke 4:18). Freedom begins with:

  1. Repentance – Acknowledge it as sin and ask God’s forgiveness.

  2. Renunciation – Verbally break all ties with occult practices.

  3. Deliverance – Seek prayer or counseling from a trusted, mature believer.

  4. Filling with the Word and Spirit – Replace the counterfeit with truth. Spend time in Scripture and prayer.

God doesn’t leave us to guess our way through life. He has given us the Holy Spirit, Scripture, and prayer as safe, God-honoring ways to receive guidance.

Conclusion

Divination may seem like a helpful tool in uncertain times, but it carries serious spiritual risks. Rather than unlocking hidden truths, it can open doors to torment, lead to spiritual deception, and pull hearts away from the living God. For the believer, our future isn’t hidden in cards or stars—it’s secure in the hands of Christ.

Methods of discernment:

• Who was the founder of this modality?

• What was his/her spirituality?

• What culture did it come out of?

• What were their beliefs?

Aleister Crowley: The Occultist, the Controversy, and the Legacy

Aleister Crowley: The Occultist, the Controversy, and the Legacy

Aleister Crowley: The Occultist, the Controversy, and the Legacy

Who Was Aleister Crowley?

Aleister Crowley (1875–1947) was a British occultist, writer, and ceremonial magician, infamous for his involvement in esoteric traditions and self-styled spiritual philosophy, Thelema. He was a prolific author, poet, and mystic, delving into topics of ritual magic, Eastern mysticism, and philosophy. Crowley proclaimed himself as "The Great Beast 666," a title that fueled his notoriety and led many to associate him with blasphemy against Christianity.

His Interests and Practices

Crowley was deeply immersed in studying and practicing ceremonial magic, esoteric traditions, and religious philosophies. He was particularly influenced by ancient Egyptian mythology and Kabbalistic thought, which shaped his creation of Thelema—a belief system emphasizing personal will, spiritual enlightenment, and the phrase “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.”

His practices included meditation, sex magic, and drug-induced mysticism, which often placed him at odds with conventional religious doctrines. His involvement with secret societies, including the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and Ordo Templi Orientis (OTO), solidified his reputation as a radical figure in esoteric circles.

Crowley and His Opposition to Christianity

Crowley’s philosophy and lifestyle were seen by many as directly opposing Christian teachings. His proclamation as "The Great Beast 666" was perceived as a mockery of biblical concepts, and his rejection of traditional moral structures placed him in opposition to Christian doctrine. The concept of Thelema, particularly its emphasis on absolute personal will, conflicted with the notion of divine obedience found in Christianity.

Allegations of Scams and Financial Motives

Throughout his life, Crowley faced accusations of fraud, deception, and financial exploitation. Some critics believed he used his status within occult circles to extract wealth from followers. His extravagant lifestyle, costly rituals, and lavish travels raised suspicions about whether he was truly devoted to mysticism or simply profiting from believers.

However, despite these accusations, Crowley was often financially unstable. He relied on donations from patrons, struggled with addiction, and was frequently in debt. While he may have benefitted financially from his influence, he did not die a wealthy man, leaving behind only a complex legacy rather than a fortune.

His Contributions

Despite his controversial life, Crowley’s impact on modern mysticism, esoteric traditions, and popular culture is undeniable. His writings, particularly The Book of the Law, Magick in Theory and Practice, and Confessions, remain influential in occult studies. His teachings shaped modern pagan and occult movements, including Wicca and Chaos Magick.

Beyond mysticism, Crowley influenced literature, music, and counterculture. His philosophy inspired musicians like Led Zeppelin and The Beatles, and his life has been depicted in films, novels, and conspiracy theories. While critics view him as a fraud or blasphemer, his intellectual and spiritual contributions continue to fascinate scholars and seekers alike.

How Helena Blavatsky Challenged Christianity and Introduced Occult Practices

How Helena Blavatsky Challenged Christianity and Introduced Occult Practices

How Helena Blavatsky Challenged Christianity and Introduced Occult Practices

Helena Blavatsky was a Russian mystic and writer who co-founded the Theosophical Society in 1875. She played a significant role in popularizing Theosophy, a belief system that sought to synthesize science, religion, and philosophy. Blavatsky traveled extensively and claimed to have studied with spiritual adepts in Tibet, though some critics have questioned the authenticity of these claims. Her works, such as Isis Unveiled and The Secret Doctrine, introduced esoteric concepts that influenced Western occult traditions.

Blavatsky's teachings were controversial, particularly among Christian communities, as they challenged traditional religious doctrines and introduced mystical and occult ideas. Some critics viewed her as a fraud, accusing her of fabricating spiritual phenomena and misleading followers. Her association with séances and claims of psychic abilities further fueled skepticism. Under her leadership, the Theosophical Society promoted ideas that blended Eastern and Western philosophies, which some saw as a departure from Christian teachings.

While Blavatsky's influence on modern spirituality and the New Age movement is undeniable, opinions on her legacy remain divided. Some regard her as a visionary seeking deeper spiritual truths, while others consider her a controversial figure who challenged established religious beliefs. If you're interested in exploring her impact further, I can summarize specific aspects of her work or controversies. Let me know how you'd like to proceed!

Her legacy remains highly debated. Some see her as a visionary, while others believe she misled followers with fabricated spiritual claims. Would you like to explore her teachings or controversies more?

Helena Blavatsky claimed to have learned her spiritual and esoteric knowledge from traveling extensively and studying under mystical teachers. She stated that she had been trained by "Masters of the Ancient Wisdom" in Tibet, though many historians question whether she visited Tibet or whether these accounts were exaggerated. Her teachings blended Western esotericism, Eastern philosophies, and occult traditions, drawing from Hinduism, Buddhism, Hermeticism, and Neoplatonism.

As for financial motives, Blavatsky was often accused of fraud and deception, particularly concerning her spiritual claims and alleged psychic abilities. The Coulomb Affair was one major controversy where former associates accused her of fabricating supernatural phenomena for personal gain. However, while she did gain followers and financial support, she was not known for extravagant wealth. Her focus was more on spreading Theosophy rather than accumulating riches.

Her legacy remains highly debated—some see her as a visionary, while others believe she misled followers with fabricated spiritual claims. Would you like to explore her teachings or controversies more?

The Hidden Danger of Consulting Familiar Spirits

The Hidden Danger of Consulting Familiar Spirits: A Christian Warning

The Hidden Danger of Consulting Familiar Spirits: A Christian Warning

Consulting Familiar Spirits: A Deceptive Path That Leads to Destruction

The term consulting familiar spirits may sound archaic, but the practice is alive and well under modern names like "channeling," "spirit guides," "psychic readings," and even “mediumship.” What many believe to be communication with a departed loved one or an angelic being is, in truth, direct contact with demonic spirits, cleverly disguised as helpful or benign.

What Is a Consultant of Familiar Spirits?

A consultant of familiar spirits engages in ongoing communication or relationship with spiritual entities that present themselves as known figures, such as dead relatives, guardian angels, or cosmic guides. These spirits often provide information, advice, or “healing,” drawing people deeper into dependence on them. However, biblically, these are unclean spirits, also called demons.

Leviticus 19:31 states: “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.”

How Does It Work?

This practice typically involves rituals, meditations, or altered states of consciousness in which the person becomes receptive to spiritual voices. These spirits often use flattery, false comfort, or esoteric knowledge to draw the individual in. Over time, what began as "comfort" becomes spiritual bondage. Familiar spirits aim to gain access and influence, eventually controlling a person's thoughts, emotions, and decisions.

What’s so deceptive is that these spirits often masquerade as light (2 Corinthians 11:14), claiming to be angels or high-vibrational beings. In truth, they are demonic forces sent to distract and destroy.

Where Did It Come From? Who Is the Founder?

The practice of consulting familiar spirits traces back to ancient pagan cultures—Babylon, Egypt, Canaan, and Greece—where priests and oracles acted as mediums between the physical and spiritual worlds. While no single founder exists, the modern revival of these practices can be largely attributed to the Spiritualist Movement of the 19th century.

A key figure in this movement was Emanuel Swedenborg (1688–1772), a Swedish philosopher who claimed to have contact with angels and spirits. Later, Helena Blavatsky, founder of Theosophy, promoted communication with spiritual beings to gain divine wisdom. These teachings greatly influenced the New Age movement and continue to shape practices today.

Religious Beliefs Behind It

Most consultants of familiar spirits subscribe to New Age spirituality, which blends Eastern mysticism, Gnosticism, and occult principles. It teaches that spiritual enlightenment comes through personal experience with the "spirit realm"—often bypassing God altogether. It denies biblical truth, the personhood of Jesus Christ, and the reality of sin and salvation.

Instead of relying on the Holy Spirit, individuals are taught to trust unseen voices—opening themselves to deception and spiritual oppression.

Why Christians Should Avoid It

For believers, the spiritual world is not a playground. Consulting spirits is not just forbidden—it’s dangerous. Any guidance not from the Holy Spirit is a counterfeit, and Satan is a master imitator. Engaging with familiar spirits can lead to confusion, fear, mental torment, emotional instability, and even physical affliction.

Many who leave New Age or occult practices report:

  • Nightmares and sleep paralysis

  • Depression and anxiety

  • A feeling of being watched or followed

  • Difficulty reading the Bible or praying

  • A sense of spiritual heaviness or oppression

These are not just psychological side effects—they’re spiritual consequences of opening doors to demonic influence.

It Pulls You Away From Christ

The most devastating effect is spiritual. These spirits will subtly draw your heart away from Jesus. They often affirm all paths to God or downplay the need for repentance. They deny the lordship of Christ and the truth of Scripture.

This deception can seem enlightening initially, but its end is spiritual death (Proverbs 14:12). Jesus warned us in Matthew 24:24 that even the elect could be deceived if they’re not vigilant.

There Is Hope and Freedom in Christ

You can be free if you’ve consulted spirits, knowingly or unknowingly. Jesus Christ has authority over every power of darkness. Repent, renounce the spirits, and invite the Holy Spirit to dwell in their place. Deliverance and restoration are available to all who turn back to the Lord.

The Dark Roots of Conjuration and Its Danger to Believers

The Dark Roots of Conjuration and Its Danger to Believers

The Dark Roots of Conjuration and Its Danger to Believers

Conjuration: The Hidden Dangers Behind a Seemingly Harmless Practice

Conjuration, at its core, is calling upon spirits, performing magical spells, or using rituals and incantations to produce supernatural effects. It is rooted in ancient occult traditions and has long been associated with the invocation of spirits—sometimes even demons—through spoken words, ceremonial acts, or magical symbols.

While modern entertainment may use the term in connection with stage magic or illusions (as in conjuring tricks), conjuration's deeper and more traditional meaning remains a spiritual practice steeped in darkness.

Origins and Founders

The practice of conjuration does not have a single founder. Instead, it evolved out of various ancient religious and occult traditions. Conjuration has roots in Babylonian, Egyptian, and Greco-Roman mystery religions, medieval European witchcraft, and ceremonial magic. These practices were codified and expanded upon by figures such as Cornelius Agrippa, John Dee, and Aleister Crowley, who were deeply involved in Western esotericism.

For instance, Cornelius Agrippa (1486–1535) was a German polymath who wrote Three Books of Occult Philosophy, which laid a foundation for modern occult practices, including conjuration. He believed one could influence the physical world by aligning oneself with spiritual realms through magical formulas and rituals.

A well-known occultist, Aleister Crowley (1875–1947), took these ideas further in the 20th century. He practiced ceremonial magic (which included conjuration) and promoted the religion of Thelema, which asserts that individuals should follow their own "true will"—a belief that directly contradicts the Christian call to submit to God's will.

Religious and Philosophical Beliefs Behind Conjuration

Occultism, which literally means “hidden knowledge, " is the religious foundation of conjuration. Occultism teaches that secret spiritual forces and powers can be accessed and manipulated through rituals, symbols, and the practitioner’s will.

These beliefs are often tied to pantheistic or gnostic worldviews, where the universe is filled with spiritual entities, both good and evil, and human beings are empowered to control or communicate with them. This starkly contrasts the Christian understanding of a sovereign God who alone holds power over creation.

How Conjuration Works

In practice, conjuration involves invoking spiritual entities through chanting, drawing sigils, or conducting rituals to perform a specific task or gain knowledge. The person performing the act often calls upon angels, “benevolent” spirits, or elemental forces, but in reality, such entities are frequently deceptive demonic spirits masquerading as beings of light.

Even seemingly innocent practices like “calling in energy,” manifesting desires, or using divination tools (such as pendulums or tarot cards) fall under conjuration. The Bible clearly states that consulting spirits or attempting to manipulate the spiritual realm apart from God is sorcery and strongly condemned (Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Galatians 5:19-21).

Why Christians Should Avoid Conjuration

For believers in Christ, dabbling in conjuration or any form of occultism is not just spiritually dangerous—it is spiritually treasonous. Engaging in these practices directly violates God’s commandments and opens doors to demonic oppression, deception, and spiritual torment.

What may seem like “light” or harmless spiritual curiosity can lead to spiritual bondage. Many people who have come out of the New Age and occult report experiences of fear, mental torment, sleep paralysis, and a sense of spiritual heaviness. These consequences often lift only when the individual renounces these practices and turns entirely to Christ.

Conjuration pulls a person’s dependence away from Jesus and toward self-empowerment or reliance on spirit guides. It subtly conditions the soul to seek spiritual experiences apart from God, which can open the door to deception. As 2 Corinthians 11:14 warns, “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.”

The Call to Return to Christ

Christians are called to worship God in spirit and truth, trusting in the Holy Spirit alone for guidance and power. The supernatural is real, but not all of it comes from God. Conjuration promises power and control, but it delivers deception and bondage.

If you’ve participated in such practices, there is hope. Through repentance and surrender to Jesus Christ, you can be set free. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).

Methods of discernment:

• Who was the founder of this modality?

• What was his/her spirituality?

• What culture did it come out of?

• What were their beliefs?

• Who is their God or gods?

The Truth About the Chinese Birth Chart

The Truth About the Chinese Birth Chart: A Christian Perspective

The Truth About the Chinese Birth Chart: A Christian Perspective

The Chinese Birth Chart: A Christian Warning

The Chinese Birth Chart, sometimes called the Chinese Gender Prediction Chart, is an ancient method to determine an unborn baby’s gender based on the mother’s age and the month of conception. Said to have been discovered nearly 700 years ago in a royal tomb near Beijing, this chart has gained popularity worldwide, primarily through online platforms and parenting forums.

Origins and Founder

Although widely attributed to ancient Chinese tradition, the exact origins of the chart remain unclear. It’s believed that the method was created during the Qing Dynasty, with some claims linking it to the Chinese imperial family, who may have used it for planning lineage and succession. However, there is no record of a specific “founder,” and much of the history is shrouded in legend rather than documented fact.

The chart is based on the Chinese lunar calendar, not the Gregorian calendar used in the West. This calendar aligns with astrology and traditional Chinese cosmology, involving concepts such as yin and yang, the Five Elements, and the I Ching (Book of Changes)—tools often used for divination and spiritual insight in ancient Chinese religions.

Underlying Feelings and Religion

The belief system supporting the Chinese Birth Chart is steeped in Daoism, Chinese folk religion, and astrology. These traditions emphasize harmony with nature, cosmic energy flows, and ancestral spirits. Many elements of these beliefs contrast with a biblical worldview. Practices like divination, fortune-telling, and seeking insight through astrology are prominent within these systems.

Daoism, for instance, does not acknowledge a personal Creator God. Instead, it promotes spiritual balance and impersonal forces like the "Tao" (the Way). This makes the chart a spiritual tool rooted in a worldview different from Christianity.

Why Christians Should Avoid This Practice

While the Chinese Birth Chart may seem harmless or fun, it poses serious spiritual dangers. First and foremost, it represents a form of divination—something Scripture explicitly forbids. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 warns against diviners, sorcerers, and those who interpret omens. Engaging with such tools opens a door to deception and distances believers from relying on God’s guidance.

By seeking knowledge about a child’s future through mystical means, we replace trust in God with confidence in human or spiritual systems apart from Him. This undermines faith in God’s sovereignty and can subtly lead a believer into broader New Age practices—astrology, energy healing, or manifestation—further pulling them away from Christ.

Additionally, what starts as curiosity can quickly become dependency. People may begin consulting such charts for future decisions, believing in their accuracy instead of surrendering their plans to God’s will (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Consequences of Dabbling in New Age Modalities

When Christians entertain New Age or occult practices, they risk spiritual confusion, a hardened heart toward God, and an open door to demonic influence. These practices can hinder prayer, disrupt peace, and create spiritual strongholds. Over time, they erode a person’s confidence in God’s Word, replacing it with uncertainty and superstition.

Satan often disguises lies as light. A simple chart predicting gender may seem trivial, but the spiritual roots make it incompatible with a life of obedience and faith.

Jesus Is the Only Way

John 14:6 declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” True peace, healing, and future hope come from trusting in Jesus, not ancient charts or mystical predictions. He alone knows the future (Jeremiah 29:11) and holds each life—including the life of an unborn child—in His hands.

When you are uncertain about your child’s health, gender, or future, bring your concerns to God in prayer. Trust that He is good, sovereign, and faithful. Believers are called to walk by faith, not by sight or charts.

Conclusion

Though culturally intriguing, the Chinese Birth Chart is more than just a game. Its origins and spiritual foundations are incompatible with the Christian faith. Instead of turning to mysticism for answers, Christians must fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). He alone is trustworthy, and in Him alone can we place our full confidence for the future.
