Have you ever gone through something painful and said words like, “I will never trust anyone again,” “I will never let anyone hurt me,” “I will never forgive them,” or “I will never be like my mother or father”? At the time, those words may have felt like protection. You may have said them in fear, anger, grief, betrayal, rejection, or trauma. But spiritually, those words can become what we call an inner vow. An inner vow is a promise made within the heart. It often forms when a person is wounded and decides how they will protect themselves from ever being hurt again.
