Planetary Spirits: Ancient Deception in Modern Disguise
What Are Planetary Spirits?
Throughout history, cultures have worshiped and invoked what they called planetary spirits—supernatural beings believed to govern the movements of the seven classical planets: the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. These entities were honored in Babylonian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman traditions, and later absorbed into medieval occultism, astrology, and even Renaissance magic.
Cultural Origins
The roots of planetary spirit worship go back to Babylon, where star and planetary deities were central to religion. The Babylonians believed the stars and planets were physical manifestations of gods who controlled human destiny. Egypt followed with Ra (the Sun god), Thoth (linked with Mercury), and Isis (connected to the Moon). The Greeks and Romans continued the tradition, giving the planets names of their gods—Mars, Jupiter, Venus, etc.—a practice that persists in modern astronomy.
Beliefs About Planetary Spirits
Ancient cultures believed each planet radiated divine influence that shaped human character, fate, and even nations. They taught that by invoking or appeasing planetary spirits, people could manipulate luck, love, health, or power. Astrology grew from this worldview, positioning planetary spirits as rulers of zodiac signs and earthly affairs. This was not just superstition—it was occult practice, drawing on demonic powers disguised as heavenly wisdom.
Who Were Their Gods?
The gods of planetary spirits were not benign forces of the universe but false gods and demons masquerading as celestial rulers.

Sun – Worshiped as Shamash, Ra, Apollo.

Moon – Worshiped as Sin, Isis, Diana.

Mars – Associated with Nergal, Ares.

Jupiter – Associated with Marduk, Zeus.

Venus – Worshiped as Ishtar, Aphrodite.

Saturn – Linked to Ninurta, Cronus, and later occult Saturnian worship.
These gods demanded worship through ritual sacrifices, astrology, and occult devotion. The Bible condemns this directly: “And lest you lift up your eyes unto heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them” (Deuteronomy 4:19).
Purpose of Planetary Spirit Practices
The purpose of these practices was always about control and divination—seeking hidden knowledge and manipulating events outside of God’s authority. Astrologers, magicians, and occult priests claimed planetary spirits revealed destiny, guided kings, or could be invoked for personal gain. In reality, these practices opened spiritual gates to demons.
Why Do People Get Involved?
People turn to planetary spirits for the same reason they seek horoscopes, tarot cards, or crystals today—desire for guidance, power, or comfort apart from God. The deception is appealing: a sense of cosmic order, spiritual enlightenment, or personalized destiny. Yet the Bible warns: “There shall not be found among you anyone that uses divination, or an observer of times” (Deuteronomy 18:10). Planetary spirit worship is nothing less than divination—and it binds people to demonic oppression.
Is It Divination?
Yes. Planetary spirit practices fall under the category of divination and sorcery, condemned by God. Astrology, planetary alignments, and magical invocations are attempts to bypass God’s sovereignty and gain spiritual power through demonic influence.
The Danger for Christians
Even today, planetary spirits influence culture through astrology apps, zodiac horoscopes, “Saturn returns,” and occult spirituality disguised as self-help. Many Christians unknowingly open doors to oppression when they dabble in astrology or planetary magic. What begins as curiosity often spirals into spiritual bondage.
Biblical Response
God alone rules the heavens. “He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name” (Psalm 147:4). Planetary spirits are not divine rulers but fallen entities masquerading as gods. The only safe response is repentance, renunciation, and deliverance in Jesus Christ.
Closing Call
Do not be deceived by planetary spirits, astrology, or any form of cosmic divination. These are ancient demonic forces repackaged for modern times. Seek God’s truth, not the counterfeit wisdom of spirits that masquerade as light.
