Holistic Pulsing and the Hidden Dangers Christians Must Know

Holistic Pulsing and the Hidden Dangers Christians Must Know

The Hidden Dangers of Holistic Pulsing: A Christian Warning

Holistic pulsing is marketed as a gentle bodywork therapy that helps release tension, trauma, and energy blockages. It involves rhythmic rocking, stretching, and lengthening of the body to encourage inner flow. Practitioners claim it aids healing by facilitating spontaneous movement, inner awareness, breath, and even sound release.

But behind its soft exterior lies a practice rooted in spiritual traditions incompatible with biblical Christianity. In this article, we will explore the origins of holistic pulsing, its founder's worldview, the spiritual risks it poses, and most importantly, what God’s Word says about turning to such alternative sources for healing.

What Is Holistic Pulsing?

Holistic pulsing is a body-centered therapy that uses gentle rocking movements to affect a person’s emotional, physical, and energetic systems. The body is moved rhythmically in a way that mimics the womb experience. As the practitioner moves the body, it’s said that energetic blockages surface and can be released through breath, sound, and internal awareness.

While this sounds harmless or even therapeutic, there’s much more going on beneath the surface—particularly in the spiritual realm.

The Founder: Tovi Browning

Holistic pulsing was developed by Tovi Browning in the 1980s in New Zealand. She was a former nurse who moved into alternative healing practices after exploring New Age modalities. Tovi’s methods drew heavily from biodynamic craniosacral therapy, rebirthing, and energy work.

Her spirituality was deeply rooted in the New Age worldview. She believed in the body’s “innate wisdom,” universal energy, and the idea that healing is facilitated by tapping into one’s inner consciousness. In her own writings and teachings, Tovi spoke of connecting with energy flows and the inner “self”—often using spiritual language that mirrors Eastern mysticism more than biblical truth.

Cultural and Spiritual Roots

Holistic pulsing did not arise from a vacuum. It stems from New Age and Eastern philosophies that teach the body is composed of energy fields, and that healing occurs when these fields are aligned. These beliefs often incorporate concepts like chakras, meridians, or a “universal life force”—ideas foreign and hostile to Christian doctrine.

In these systems, God is not the personal, sovereign Lord revealed in Scripture. Instead, “god” is often viewed as a universal energy, or divine force within all people. This pantheistic worldview directly contradicts the biblical teaching that God is distinct from His creation and that healing comes from Him alone—not through manipulation of invisible energies.

Who Is Their “God”?

In holistic pulsing and similar modalities, there is no mention of the God of the Bible. The focus is on self-awareness, inner divinity, and the body’s own intelligence. This is, in essence, idolatry—the worship of creation rather than the Creator (Romans 1:25). These therapies draw people into seeking healing apart from God, often through spiritual means that open doors to demonic influence.

When individuals engage in practices rooted in occult or idolatrous systems, they are not just being “relaxed.” They are placing themselves under spiritual authorities that are not from God. This is dangerous ground.

The Spiritual Dangers: Opening the Door to Demonic Torment

Many who have participated in holistic pulsing or similar practices report unusual spiritual experiences—hearing voices, seeing lights, or feeling an unseen presence. Others experience mental torment, confusion, or intensified emotional distress afterward. These are signs of spiritual intrusion, not healing.

God has specific reasons for warning us against such practices. In Deuteronomy 18:10-12, He forbids divination, enchantment, and consulting spirits. Although holistic pulsing may not involve obvious occult rituals, it is spiritually deceptive. By engaging with spiritual energy that does not come from the Holy Spirit, people unknowingly open the door to torment.

2 Corinthians 11:14 reminds us that “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” What appears healing or peaceful can in fact be a subtle strategy of the enemy to ensnare hearts and bodies.

Why God Warns Us About Lesser Powers

Throughout Scripture, we are told to seek the Lord for healing and deliverance. Psalm 103:2-3 says, “Bless the Lord, O my soul… who heals all your diseases.” Jeremiah 17:5 gives a clear warning: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord.”

Seeking healing through energy manipulation, even if it feels effective in the moment, turns our trust away from God and toward creation. This breaks our spiritual alignment and opens us up to counterfeit experiences. Just because something “works” doesn’t mean it is from God. Satan can offer temporary relief, only to ensnare a person further in deception and bondage.

True Healing Comes Through Christ

The gospel provides not only forgiveness of sin but also healing for the whole person—body, soul, and spirit. Isaiah 53:5 declares, “By His wounds we are healed.” Jesus Christ is the true source of deliverance, peace, and restoration. We are not to seek healing from forces or methods that contradict His nature and truth.

If you or someone you know has engaged in holistic pulsing, there is hope. Repentance, renouncing the practice, and seeking God’s forgiveness through Christ opens the door to true freedom. God is merciful and powerful to deliver us from every counterfeit.

Final Thoughts

Holistic pulsing may appear as a gentle, non-invasive therapy, but its spiritual roots and practices are not neutral. Christians are called to be discerning, testing every spirit to see whether it is from God (1 John 4:1). Do not be deceived by the outward appearance of peace or healing. Real peace comes only through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ.

Holistic pulsing is yet another example of how the enemy repackages ancient spiritual deception into modern health trends. Let us remain vigilant, rooted in the Word, and confident that Christ is our ultimate healer.
