Can a Christian Have a Demon? The Bible's Clear Answer

  • Can a Christian Have a Demon? The Bible's Clear Answer

  • Can a Christian Have a Demon? The Bible's Clear Answer

Can a Christian Have a Demon or Be Demon Possessed?

The real question isn’t just can a Christian have a demon—it's this: What area of your life does a demon have access to? What is controlling you that you can’t seem to shake?

Have you ever struggled with anger, anxiety, fear, lust, suicidal thoughts, sickness, or guilt—and no amount of prayer, counseling, or willpower could fix it? Many believers live in bondage while the Bible promises freedom. So, what’s the disconnect?

    The Promise of Freedom

Scripture makes it clear that freedom is the inheritance of every believer:

    • “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

    • “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” (Galatians 5:1)

    • “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)

Yet countless Christians suffer in silence. Why? Is Scripture not literal? Or have we missed something vital in the modern church?

The truth is: freedom is possible—but it’s conditional on obedience, repentance, and spiritual warfare.

    The Church’s Neglected Mandate

In many parts of the Western church, one-third of Jesus' ministry—casting out demons—has been ignored. Yet Jesus clearly commanded His followers to:

“Preach the gospel… heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons.” (Matthew 10:7-8)

“He gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases.” (Luke 9:1)

Deliverance is not optional for the Church. It’s a command. And when it’s neglected, the people of God stay in chains.

    What Are Demons?

Demons are fallen angels, expelled from heaven alongside Lucifer:

    • Ezekiel 28:14-18

    • 2 Peter 2:4

    • Revelation 12:4, 9

Some are confined in the abyss (Revelation 9:1-11; Luke 8:31), but others operate in the “heavenlies” (Ephesians 6:12), influencing:

    • Individuals (Ephesians 2:1-2)

    • Governments (Daniel 10:13, 20)

    • World events (John 12:31; 2 Thessalonians 2:8-10)

Their mission? To oppose God and destroy mankind (John 10:10).

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe.” (Luke 11:21)
“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places… and returns with seven other spirits more wicked than itself.” (Luke 11:24–26)

Demons are content when they inhabit people. When expelled, they seek re-entry—often with greater force.

Can a Christian Be Demon Possessed?

The term “possessed” can be misleading. A more accurate term is “demonized”—meaning a demon has influence or stronghold over a part of a Christian’s life, not ownership.

Here’s the key: a born-again believer’s spirit is sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13), but their soul and body can still come under demonic influence—especially if there are open doors.

    What Are Open Doors?

According to Proverbs 26:2, “The curse causeless shall not come.” This means there is usually a reason a demon has access. These reasons include:

    • Unrepented sin

    • Generational curses or ancestral sin

    • Traumatic events or soul wounds

    • Occult involvement

    • Habitual disobedience or rebellion

Demons exploit these openings, establishing strongholds in the mind, emotions, or body.

    The Spiritual Root of Disease

Did you know 80% of all diseases have a spiritual root cause? Many Christians unknowingly carry demons of infirmity, rooted in unforgiveness, bitterness, fear, or generational sin.

Sickness was never God’s design for His people. Jesus healed all who were oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38).

When spiritual roots go undetected, physical healing is delayed—or never comes—because the root is spiritual, not medical.

    Deliverance Brings Real Freedom

    If you're suffering from:

    • Anxiety

    • Addiction

    • Anger or rage

    • Chronic illness

    • Depression or suicidal thoughts

    • Night terrors or sleep paralysis

...you may need deliverance, not just prayer or therapy.

    The Solution: Deliverance Ministry

Deliverance ministry helps remove demonic strongholds and close open doors through:

    1. Repentance and confession of sin

    2. Renunciation of occult involvement or generational curses

    3. Forgiveness of others and self

    4. Casting out of demons in Jesus’ name

    5. Filling the house with God’s Word and presence

Jesus gave us authority over unclean spirits. We must use it.

    Don't Just Cope. Get Free.

If you’ve been living in spiritual defeat, there is hope and healing through Jesus Christ. Your inheritance is total freedom—mind, body, and spirit.

“Whom the Son sets free is free indeed.” (John 8:36)

Let Jesus do what He came to do—destroy the works of the devil in your life.

    The Battle of the Mind

The Battlefield of the Mind - the Importance of Renewing the Mind

The Battlefield of the Mind - the Importance of Renewing the Mind

    First, we must understand thoughts:

“Think you know what thought is? It may not be as simple as you think!”

We all live with our thoughts every day, but have you ever really stopped to ask: What exactly is a thought?

At the most basic level, thoughts begin in a neuron, also known as a nerve cell.

Think of neurons as little messengers. Each one has:

    • Dendrites – tiny “branches” that receive signals.
    • An axon – a long “cable” that sends the signal forward.
    • Terminal buttons – little pods at the end that release chemicals to the next neuron.

But here’s the catch: neurons never actually touch each other. Instead, signals have to jump across a tiny gap called the synapse.

When the message makes the leap, it does so using special chemicals—like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. These are the “neurotransmitters” you’ve probably heard about. If enough of the chemical gets across the gap, the next neuron “fires,” and the signal continues.

Billions of these tiny exchanges are happening in your brain right now—forming thoughts, memories, emotions, and even your sense of self.

The Brain’s Wiring: Cobwebs or Superhighways?

One neuron put 86 billion of them together—and you get the human brain. Each neuron can connect to thousands of others. The result? About 150 trillion synapses.

Every thought, movement, and emotion flows through this system of highways and intersections.

    Thoughts, Feelings & Memories

Now here’s where it gets interesting: thoughts don’t stand alone. They interact with emotions and memories.

    • Emotions – the amygdala (fear), insula (disgust), and prefrontal cortex (decision-making) all play their part. Neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine shape how we feel.
    • Memories – short-term, long-term, explicit, implicit—our memories aren’t like photos stored in a file cabinet. They’re more like torn puzzle pieces scattered across drawers. When you recall something, your brain reassembles the fragments, sometimes imperfectly. That’s why two people can “remember” the same event differently.

Even more fascinating—memory isn’t just about the past. It’s the brain’s way of preparing us for the future by simulating possible scenarios.

    What Thought Isn’t

Not all brain activity counts as thought. Most of what your brain does is unconscious—like filtering out the feeling of your clothes on your skin until I just mentioned it.

Thoughts are the brain activity you’re aware of—and that you can reflect on. That’s why we call it the “stream of consciousness.”

    Thinking, Choosing & Free Will

So, do we really control our thoughts? Neuroscience says—it’s complicated.

Studies show the brain starts preparing for an action seconds before we’re consciously aware of deciding it. That suggests much of our decision-making happens behind the scenes.

But here’s the good news: while we may not control the start of every impulse, we can hit the “emergency brake.” We can reflect, evaluate, and choose differently.

    Key Takeaways for You

    • Thoughts are broadcasts of deeper brain activity, not the whole story.
    • Emotions and memories are deeply woven into how we think.
    • Our brains use two systems—fast intuitive and slow reflective.
    • We may not choose every impulse, but we can choose how we respond.

    What is the CAP Model?

The CAP model describes the loops—or pathways—that lead to both our cognition (our thoughts) and our actions (our behaviors).

It brings together well-known scientific models like the Dual Systems Model and the Cognitive Cycle, but it also adds something unique:

    • The triad of genes, epigenetics, and environment
    • The filters of perception and personality

These aren’t just academic ideas. They help us see why we think the way we do, why we struggle with certain behaviors, and how to overcome them.

Part 1 - Genes, Epigenetics, and Environment

    • Genes: They hold the instructions for everything in our body. Without them, we’d just be a “salty soup” of chemicals.
    • Epigenetics: Think of them as tags on our DNA that can switch genes on or off.
    • Environment: Our surroundings shape how our genes express themselves. Stress, trauma, even words spoken over us—all of these can leave marks.

But here’s the truth: our genes and environment don’t have the final say. They set boundaries, but they don’t control our destiny.

    Part 3: Perception

We live in a sensory world. Our five senses are constantly sending signals to the brain, but the way we interpret those signals is unique to each person.

For example, someone with colorblindness or hearing loss will experience the world differently. The same is true for all of us—our brains filter reality in slightly different ways.

That means your perception of the world is not always the same as the truth. Spiritually, this is why we need discernment.

    Part 4: Personality

Personality acts like a filter on a camera lens. It shapes how we interpret emotions, stress, and relationships.

Science tells us personality is influenced by genetics, especially through our dopamine and serotonin systems, and by unique life experiences.

Spiritually, personality filters can make us lean toward optimism, pessimism, fear, or even anxiety. This filter influences how we feel, think, and act.

Part 5: Feelings, Thoughts, and Action

    • Feelings: These are how we perceive emotion.
    • Thoughts: The inner voice or inner pictures in our head. Sometimes encouraging, but often negative or accusatory.
    • Action: The final step—our behavior.

But here’s where the spiritual battle comes in: Not all thoughts are our own.

Satan uses fiery darts—accusations, lies, reminders of failure—to keep us trapped in guilt, fear, and rejection. That’s why Ephesians tells us to put on the helmet of salvation and renew our minds (Romans 12:2).

    Part 6: Strongholds vs. Freedom

The more we replay lies, regrets, or failures, the stronger they become. That’s a stronghold.

But Jesus gave us the key: Truth sets us free. (John 8:32)

    • When you know the truth, you can cast down the lie.
    • When you renew your mind, you break the cycle.
    • When you put your failures under the blood of Christ, you can finally move forward.

Think of it like a maze. Wrong directions keep you trapped. But the right map—the Word of God—leads you out into freedom.

    Toxic Thoughts, Stress, and Health

    Introduction
Let’s talk about something powerful: your thought life.
Science and Scripture both tell us that what we think has a profound effect on our health—physically, mentally, and spiritually.

    1. Thoughts Cause Stress

Every thought carries weight. Positive thoughts can bring peace and clarity, but toxic thoughts create stress in the body.

    2. Stress and Disease

    Research is clear:

    • Stress is directly linked to nearly all serious physical and mental illness.

    • Even a little bit of toxic thinking can have far-reaching consequences for our health.

    Studies show:

    • 75–98% of mental, physical, and behavioral illness can be traced back to thought life.

    • Up to 80% of health issues today may stem from toxic thinking patterns.

    • Stress and disease are associated in 85% of cases.

This means your mind and body are deeply connected.

    3. How Stress Affects the Body

Let’s look at three key systems impacted by toxic stress:

    • The Heart – Stress increases blood pressure, damages arteries, and strains cardiovascular health.

    • The Immune System – Chronic stress suppresses immunity, making you more vulnerable to sickness.

    • The Digestive System – Stress disrupts digestion, causes inflammation, and can trigger long-term gut issues.

    4. Two Choices We All Face

We really only have two options:

    • Option 1: Allow toxic, negative thoughts to poison us—leading to emotional pain and physical illness.

    • Option 2: Learn to detox our thought life—replacing lies, regrets, and toxic patterns with truth, peace, and hope.

    5. The Good News

When you choose to make your thoughts life-giving instead of life-threatening:

    • You reduce stress.

    • You strengthen your immune system.

    • You protect your heart.

    • You step into greater emotional and physical health.

    Understanding Demonic Strongholds

We are constantly at war — not with people, but with the unseen forces that seek to torment and destroy our peace, purpose, and identity in Christ. In John 10:10, Jesus warns that Satan comes only to "steal, kill, and destroy." One of the enemy's greatest weapons is the fiery dart — a lie, temptation, or painful memory aimed at our minds.

These darts often trigger feelings of rejection, fear, shame, and insecurity. But you don’t have to live under attack. God has provided powerful tools to help you renew your mind and walk in victory. Let's explore the five keys to quenching these fiery darts and reclaiming your thought life.

    The Source of the Battle

The mind is the battlefield. Our thoughts come from three sources: God, the enemy, and ourselves. The enemy manipulates past wounds, negative words, and lies to trigger guilt, fear, and self-hatred. As Ephesians 6:16 declares:

"Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one."

A fiery dart is more than a random thought. The Greek word for dart (belos) means a flaming missile designed to set the soul on fire — with destruction. These thoughts aren't harmless. They aim to derail your destiny.

The Fall and the Mind-Body Connection

Before the fall, Adam and Eve were God-conscious — not self-conscious. When they disobeyed and ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they became exposed to Satan’s realm. Thoughts of shame, fear, and guilt entered, separating them from God.

This spiritual wound affects generations. Many of us grew up in homes marked by trauma, rejection, or control. The enemy used these experiences to form strongholds — patterns of thought based on lies that feel like truth.

    Examples of Fiery Darts

    • “You’re not good enough.”

    • “God doesn’t love you.”

    • “You’ll never be free from addiction.”

    • “You’ll always be alone.”

These darts create emotional reactions — sadness, anger, fear — and can lead to sin or withdrawal. They can even feel familiar due to familiar spirits passed down generationally.

Five Keys to Quench the Fiery Darts

    1. Correct Your View of God

Many strongholds begin with a distorted view of God. If you grew up with distant or harsh parents, you may project those traits onto your Heavenly Father. But God is not like man. He is compassionate, just, and full of mercy.

Renewal starts by knowing who God truly is. Study His character and meditate on scriptures like Psalm 103:8:

"The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy."

    2. Cast Down Every Lie

In 2 Corinthians 10:5, Paul exhorts believers to:

“Cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity.”

Every time a fiery dart flies your way — a lie that contradicts God's Word — reject it immediately. Don’t dwell on it. Replace it with Scripture.

    Example:
    Lie: “I’m worthless.”
Truth: “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:14

    3. Speak and Renew with Truth

Don’t just think God’s Word — speak it aloud. Repetition builds faith and demolishes strongholds. Learn what God says about you and declare it daily. We have trees called dendrites. We can have good strongholds unto the Lord and negative strongholds. The negative strongholds - these dendrites hold the thought have thorns, are not bushy like healthy strongholds, and have a cloud over it. To break down thaqt negative stronghold of thought, the Word renews literally the physiological. Body, Soul and Spirit works together.

    Romans 12:2 teaches:

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

When the enemy lies about your worth, future, or salvation, you must speak God’s truth to extinguish that dart.

    4. Confess and Cleanse the Mind

Repent for believing the enemy’s lies. Confess any agreement you’ve made with false identities, bitterness, or shame. Ask God to forgive and cleanse your mind.

Guard what you allow in your eyes and ears. Philippians 4:8 says to think on things that are true, noble, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. This includes avoiding toxic media, ungodly content, or negative influences.

    5. Strengthen Your Prayer Life

Your victory hinges on your relationship with God. Prayer is not a duty — it's divine intimacy. God invites you into His presence for wisdom, strength, and healing.

    Hebrews 4:16 says:

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in our time of need.”

Without regular prayer, you may feel powerless. But with the Holy Spirit, you gain divine insight and discernment. Ask Him to help you recognize the origin of your thoughts and replace them with truth.

Why It’s So Hard to Let Go of the Past

The enemy loves to use your past against you. Painful memories often replay like movies in the mind, stirring up emotions you thought were buried. These are strategic attacks to pull you back into old identities.

But you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are not defined by your trauma or your sin. You are defined by your Creator. It is those negative strongholds that have physiologically grown in your brain. The devil knows this and throws those fiery darts to get you stuck in the past. He is the king of your past and a reminder. God wants us to live in the present and move into the future. Who is going to define you. God or satan - your parents may have a bad marriage, your husband, or believe in God's truth that lives forever. You are lucky if you have your parents for 60 years.

    Temptation: The Enemy's Stealth Tactic

Temptation is not sin, but entertaining it leads there. Satan tempted Eve, but the sin occurred when she acted on the thought. That’s how strongholds begin — by meditating on ungodly thoughts until they become actions.

Once you fall into sin, the enemy quickly follows with accusationshame, and guilt, causing you to hide from God — just like Adam and Eve.

    The Generational Effect

Often, demonic strongholds run through bloodlines. What your parents or grandparents didn’t overcome may try to latch onto you. Abuse, rejection, or emotional trauma left unhealed opens doors for familiar spirits to work in your life.

But in Christ, you have the power to break every curse, silence every lie, and walk in freedom. Jesus already paid the price for your healing — body, soul, and spirit.

    Discern and Take Action

    Hebrews 5:14 says:

“But strong meat belongs to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

You must train yourself to discern where your thoughts originate. If they do not align with the Word of God, cast them down.

    Closing Encouragement

Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us to bring our requests to God:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God...”

And the result? Peace that guards your heart and mind.

Don’t accept defeat. You were made for victory. Begin today by taking your thoughts captive and applying these five keys to renew your mind and walk in God’s truth.

The Schemes of Satan: How the Devil Attacks Believers

Know Your Enemy: What the Bible Says About Satan’s Strategy

In rebellion against God (Daniel 10:13, 20)

God is preparing Satan's kingdom for final destruction (Revelation 20:10,14)

Inferior to God's Kingdom: Jesus demonstrated this by casting out demons (Matthew 12: 24-30).

    Mission objectives

Maintain Satan's rule of the earth (John 12:31, Revelation 12:3-17,16:14, 20:7-8)

Oppose God's kingdom and the redemption of people (Revelation 12:17)

Promote rebellion against God (sin) (Ephesians 2:2)

Steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10)

Draw worship, devotion, and service from people to assist in mission accomplishment (Luke 4:7, Revelation 13: 1,3-4,8,11-12,14-15)

    Command Structure of Satan

    Ruler: Satan

Formerly, Lucifer (Isaiah 14:12) was the covering cherub angel for God's throne (Ezekiel 28:14-16). (See Ezekiel 10 and Ezekiel 1:5-26 for a description of the cherubim angels)

Served amid the fiery stones before the throne of God (Ezekiel 28:14,16)

Created perfect in beauty, adorned with precious stones, and full of wisdom (Ezekiel 28:12-16)

Established by God with tremendous power (Isaiah 14:9-11, Ezekiel 28:14)

Sinned by pride (Isaiah 14:13-14, Ezekiel 28:17)

Is/was a destroyer of nations and cities (Isaiah 14:12,16,17,20)

God cast him out of heaven (Isaiah 14:12, Ezekiel 28:16-17, Luke 10:18)

Became Satan ("the adversary") and accuser of the brethren (Zechariah 3:1-2)

Current status of the Rulers of the Earth

Satan is the ruler of the earth (Luke 4:5-6, John 12:31). He is also referred to as the "prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience" (Ephesians 2:2 NKJV)

Has authority, power, and a throne (Revelation 13:2), and may give his authority over the earth to whomever he wishes (Luke 4:5-7). He will ultimately give his throne, his power, and great authority to the beast (Revelation 13:2).

Primary tactics: steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). He also uses death (Hebrews 2:14), deception (Revelation 12:9), lust (Proverbs 11:6, 2 Peter 1:4, Ephesians 2:1-3), and pride (1 John 2:15-17) to rule the earth.

He is stealthy, seeking opportune times to attack (Luke 4:13)

Asks for God’s permission to afflict certain people: Peter (Luke 22:31); Job (Job 1:11-12).

He is the father of lies, and there is no truth in him (John 8:44)

He is a murderer (John 8:44)

    Powers of Death:

Has the power of death until both he and death are destroyed during the establishment of God’s everlasting kingdom on earth (1 Corinthians 15:24-26, Revelation 20:10,14)

Able to supernaturally move people (Luke 4:9) and project temptation into the mind (Luke 4:5, John 13:2).
Strong deception powers to deceive individuals (2 Corinthians 4:4) and nations (Revelation 20:3, 8,10).
Can transform himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14)

Can travel back and forth on earth and also to heaven (1 Peter 5:8, Job 1:6-7, 2:1-2)
His power and rule are limited (Revelation 12:9, 20:1-3)
    Not omnipresent (Luke 4:13)

    Forces of Principalities

Forces include principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this age, and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12)

Except people used by evil, Satan’s forces are spiritual, not flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12)

    Evil Angels:

Satan deceived a third of the angels in heaven and them to serve himself (Revelation 12:3-9). Since there are "myriads and myriads" of God's angels, it follows that a third of them is also a large number (Hebrews 12:22, Revelation 5:11)

Fight with God's angels over matters involving human events. Daniel 10:13,20 depicts warfare between good and evil angels.

Will fight God's Archangel Michael and other angels and will be cast out of heaven with Satan (Revelation 12:9).

Will ultimately be tormented in everlasting fire (Matthew 25:41)

Imprisoned forces: Some rebelling angels were imprisoned just before Noah's flood and await final judgment. They rebelled by taking human wives and producing offspring (Genesis 6:1-6). They helped draw the human race into continual evil. God sent the flood to wipe out this corrupted race and imprisoned the guilty angels in Hell (2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6). Jesus Christ proclaimed his victory over all evil to these imprisoned spirits during His resurrection, sealing their destruction (1 Peter 3:18-20).
    Demons/Evil Spirits

    Characteristics of Satan

Dwell on the earth and seek bodies to inhabit. (Revelation 18:2, Matthew 12:43-44, Mark 5:12)
Know they will suffer at the hands of Jesus at an appointed time (Matthew 8:29)

Recognize Jesus Christ as the Son of God (Mark 1:24-26, Mark 5:10-13). They also recognize those operating under the authentic authority of Jesus Christ (Acts 19:15).

Communal. When re-inhabiting a former host person, a demon will take 7 spirits more wicked than himself and reoccupy the person (Matthew 12:43-45). Examples of multiple demons inhabiting a person are found at Mark 16:9 (Mary had 7 demons) and Mark 5:9 (Gadarenes man had a legion of demons). Also, in James 3:16 NKJV, James confirmed their communal traits, "where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there."

Have intellect and will (Matthew 12:43-45)

Vary in the level of wickedness (Matthew 12:43-45)

Description: Job’s friend, Eliphaz, described an encounter with an evil spirit in Job 4:12-21. The spirit was characterized by fear and disquieting thoughts. Eliphaz saw the spirit’s form but could not discern its appearance.

    Capabilities of Power

Limited power; they require rest (Matthew 12:43-44)

    Can travel (Matthew 12:43-45)

Can affect the "state" of their host person (Matthew 12:43-45), ranging from total demonic possession (Mark 5:2-8) to periodic demonic influence (Mark 9:17-18).

They can influence their host's emotions, thoughts, and actions toward destruction. Examples include the Gerasene demoniac cutting himself in Mark 5:5 and the boy being thrown into the fire in Mark 9:22.

Vary in power level. Some are only routed through prayer and fasting (Matthew 17:21, Mark 9:29).

    People and Evil Powers

People can be used by evil powers to accomplish satanic purposes. Examples include Judas betraying Christ (John 13:27), Elymas thwarting

    Paul’s ministry (Acts 13:8-10) and David numbering Israel's army (1 Chronicles 21:1).

Can be used as false apostles and deceitful workers (2 Corinthians 11:13-15).

Satan's forces can speak through Christians (Matthew 16:22-23). Satan spoke through Peter, tempting Jesus to avoid suffering and death.

Satan may enter people to influence them directly (Judas - Luke 22:3, Ananias – Acts 5:3)

Sin nature: Our own sinful nature can be our worst enemy. Evil powers may try to manipulate us by appealing to our sinful nature and use sinful desires to war against us (1 Peter 2:11-12, James 1:14-15).

    Communication:

Native kingdom language is deception. Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44).

Satan's Forces can communicate individually and as a group. This is illustrated in the examples of the legion of demons in the Gerasene demoniac (Mark 5:2-8) and the demon returning with 7 other demons to his host in Matthew 12:43-45.

Evil words Can be used to promote destruction, fear, doubt, blasphemy, and curses (James 3:6,10-12). One example of how evil forces can use evil words is in Ecclesiastes 10:20. Solomon talked about how a "bird of the air" could reveal a person's evil thoughts and words spoken privately to others. The Amplified Bible refers to a "winged creature," which could suggest a fallen angel or demon that intercepts thoughts and words.

Idle words can provide a foothold for affliction and judgment of the speaker (Matthew 12:36-37)
Blocking: Evil angels attempted to block God's angel from bringing the answer to Daniel's prayer in Daniel 10:13,20.

Counterfeit spiritual gifts: evil forces may use counterfeit spiritual manifestations to accomplish their purposes. Divination, necromancy, witchcraft, fortune telling, palm reading, and sorcery are all examples of manifestations of evil power (see occult sin page for more info and refs).

Future: Jesus Christ will crush Satan's kingdom completely, and the last enemy to be destroyed will be death (1 Corinthians 15:24-26). The

Archangel Michael will defeat Satan and hurl him down from heaven (Revelation 12:9). Next, he will be bound by an angel and thrown into the pit for 1000 years (Revelation 20:1-3). Finally, Satan and his forces will be cast into the lake of fire permanently (Revelation 20:10,14-15). Jesus

Christ will then triumphantly hand over the kingdom to God the Father (1 Corinthians 15:24-25).

    Casting Down Vain Imaginations

Casting Down Vain Imaginations - The Mind is a Battlefield

Are you Growing Thorns on your Dendrites?
    Website: https://healingdeliverance.net
Join us for Prayer and Intercession

Casting down vain imaginations - people standing on wheels

Are you casting down all vain imaginations and take every thought into captivity through the Word of God - Scriptures?

2 Corinthians 10: 3-6 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds:) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."

Where does thought come from? Have you ever thought about it? Thought comes from three sources. 1. yourself, 2. satan or the demonic realm projecting thoughts, and 3. God through the Holy Spirit - convictions.

Have you ever had an intrusive thought that you knew was not yours and had a vain imagination attached to it? We demolish arguments and every pretension

Satan’s Thoughts: Spontaneous Thoughts Which Are Negative and Destructive (i.e. line up with the names of satan: Accuser, Father of Lies, Thief, Adversary)

God’s Thoughts: Spontaneous Thoughts that are Positive and Upbuilding (i.e. line up with the names of the Holy Spirit: Comforter, Counselor, The Spirit of Truth, The Convincer, The Exhorter/Teacher)

Your Thoughts: Analytical Thoughts (i.e. connected, you construct them yourself; they are not spontaneous)

How do you know it is Satan's thought projecting into your mind? Usually, it is the opposite of God's Word. God's Word is who you are, but what do you believe?

Remember, Satan uses parents, friends, husbands, and children to put negative thoughts in you for you to believe in yourself. For example, maybe you had a dad who said you were stupid. Is that true according to God's word?

Ephesians 4:22-24 – “…to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”

Ephesians means that you are a new creation and no longer belong to your former manner of life or beliefs about you. Words can go deep and create strongholds of the mind that seem like truths but are not true, causing you to live by that negative mindset called strongholds. Meaning it has power over your life. That stronghold is like an erode in the mind.

Through life experiences, we can develop strongholds in our minds. Strongholds are toxic thoughts that can hurt our thinking process and our bodies. Chemicals also carry a photocopy of your memories and emotions.

Proverbs 23 (KJV) Verse 7-“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”

If you have healthy thoughts, the brain releases chemicals to alert and help with memory building and concentration. Memory building starts. Nerve cells (magic trees) grow healthy dendrites effectively. If you have negative thoughts, your body releases harmful chemicals affecting every cell. New research reveals that unforgiving, resentful, pessimistic, or negative thoughts cause the "memory trees" in a brain's dendrites to become sparse and thorny. They no longer look like healthy, abundant "branches" sometimes called "magic trees" by neurologists and brain researchers.

Let me put it another way: When we are unloving, angry, and unforgiving of others, unique photographs of the dendrites in our brains begin to look like dark abscesses have taken root.

That is why it is important to cast down vain imagination and anything that defies the truth of God's Word.

A person who avoids wicked men and concentrates on God's Word will be "like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither—And in whatever he does, he prospers" (Psalm 1:3, NASB).

Our physical brains hold an imprinted record of our good and bad thoughts, which will be tested in judgment.

    The apostle Paul warns,

...they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness and their thoughts alternately accusing or defending them, on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Christ Jesus (Romans 2:15-16, NASB).

It is essential to try at least to "bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5). If my thoughts "alternately accuse and defend" me in judgment, then it is essential to line up my thoughts with God's Word of truth and not listen or believe in the lies of the enemy by discerning and believing God's truth for me over what others have said over me.

Growing Good Dendrites - Good Strongholds vs. Bad Strongholds

Positive thoughts actually create more dendrite nerve fibers in the brain. She says, 'You can grow a new memory over the old memory.' One of the elements she mentions in this healing process is forgiveness.'"

    Overcoming Evil With Good

All Christians need to put on "armor of God" and "spiritual helmet" as the apostle Paul suggests in Ephesians 6:11,17, protects our physical brains and may shield us from the possible effects of negative thought processes as well. "Overcoming evil with good" becomes a physiological reality in the lives of conscientious Christians (Romans 12:21). We can grow lush, dense branches over thorny, barren "memory trees" in the dendrites of our brains.

Ephesians 6:16 says, "Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked." What does it mean to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked? It means to discern where your thoughts are coming from and put them out with the Word of God of Truth over the lie the enemy is projecting on you, whether from the past of negative words spoken over you or whatever.

Example: You say, "I cannot do this" but God's word says in Philippians 4:13 "I can do everything through him who gives me ... ... I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. ... I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me."

The Mind is a Battlefield or BATTLEGROUND

The mind is a battleground, with ongoing conflict between toxic thoughts and good thoughts, thoughts that affect your mental and physical health and can also deplete your body and mind of health.

Philippians 4:8 gives us the best chance to conquer intrusive or obsessive thoughts and bouts of unforgiveness. "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Paul tells us to focus our thinking on good things, not the negative.

No Self Pity Allowed - Look at Self Pity the Super Glue to the Hell of Your Past.

If you find yourself dwelling on what someone did to you, you need help; then take control of your thoughts and start applying God's Word and appropriate it by moving into forgiveness of those who have hurt you, used you, or abused you. Only through forgiveness can you become free from self-pity. Self-pity is the only torment that indicates you are in bondage to this person.

Self-pity, which includes brooding, feeling sorry for yourself, and so on, is a sin. "You can't enjoy even the slightest remnants of self-pity."

When our minds begin to wander, and we think about or rehearse past offenses, we must appropriate the Word of God and choose to forgive past crimes of others. It takes work, but cast down those thoughts and start forgiving. When you start applying, you are now practicing discernment who is speaking and also taking responsibility through forgiveness and learning to control your thoughts and have victory over thoughts and over the demonic spirits talking to you. This is your ticket out of self-pity hell!

This also requires not only forgiveness of those past offenses of others but also repenting, renouncing and casting out evil spirits of unforgiveness. When you do this, you are breaking the strongholds in your mind and renewing your mind with the Word of God just by applying His Word of Truth.

Memorize the Word and Pray Verses

Another remedy to negative thinking is to pray Scriptures and become active in our mental health by memorizing key passages that pertain to our particular difficulty. Again, when you memorize or speak the Word to counteract the negative thought that has had a stronghold on you, actually you are undoing the binds of wickedness, putting out fiery darts of the enemy but breaking strong strongholds and mindsets because you are being obedient to the Lord.

40,000 Neurons in the Heart Working in Feedback Loop to the Brain

It has been proven by His word, what comes out of our mouth reflects what is in our hearts. So we must work hard to think right, feel right, and speak right. It has been proven that the heart contains 40,000 neuron "brain" (in the heart) that works in a feedback loop to our brains!

For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7).

Matthew 15:18-19 "18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:"

This means, as Christians, It is not what goes into a man that defiles a man, such as food, but what comes out of a person's heart - good or evil, blessings or curses. Doing this without sinning or thinking angry, stressful thoughts may be difficult by taking responsibility for our thoughts and control our tongue in what we speak, in really, is in our heart. Ouch.

That does not mean to repress your feelings by stuffing them but doing it God's way by either working through unforgiveness, casting our cares to the Lord, or whatever it might be. It is learning to live a victorious life free from sickness and disease.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (ESV).

As Christians we must "acknowledge" sins before we can "confess" them. We must clearly identify what it is that we have done wrong. If we have thought hateful things about someone we must acknowledge it and confess it to God. If we have felt jealousy, we must acknowledge and confess that.

Matthew records Jesus' clear words: ...if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions (Matthew 5:15, NASB).

This makes our forgiveness of others a non-negotiable requirement if we are to live productive Christian lives and receive our Father's forgiveness.

In Closing, we must remember in Isaiah 55:9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

    How to Discern Evil Spirits

Discerning Evil Spirits in the Church: How to Expose Occult Practices with Scripture

Discerning Evil Spirits in the Church: How to Expose Occult Practices with Scripture

📖 “I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities, And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.” — Psalm 31:7-8, NKJV

Discerning Evil Spirits is Spiritual Warfare

In these last days, deception has crept not just into the world but into the church. What once seemed holy or helpful is often a cleverly disguised counterfeit rooted in the occult. Believers must awaken to spiritual discernment, recognizing that this is not just a matter of error—it's war.

🔍 How Do You Discern Occult Practices in the Church?

Many Christians unknowingly participate in or accept demonic modalities cloaked in Christian language. To walk in purity and power, we must test every spirit and expose the works of darkness (1 John 4:1, Ephesians 5:11). The Bible calls us to be watchmen, not passive participants.

Use these biblical methods to evaluate any spiritual practice or teaching:

    1. Who Founded It?

    • Look into the origin of the practice.

    • Was it birthed by someone with New Age, Eastern mystic, or occult ties?

    2. What Was Their Spiritual Belief?

    • Did they worship the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob?

    • Or did they practice divination, energy manipulation, or channeling?

    3. What Culture Did It Originate From?

    • Was it rooted in Hinduism, Buddhism, Witchcraft, or paganism?

    • Cultures steeped in idolatry pass on unclean spiritual inheritances.

    4. What Were Their Beliefs?

    • Do these teachings align with the gospel of Jesus Christ, or do they promote self-divinity, inner light, or cosmic consciousness?

    5. Who is Their god or gods?

    • The spiritual source behind a practice matters.

    • If their god is not the Lord Jesus Christ, the God of the Bible, it is a false god—often demonic.

📖 “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” — 1 John 4:1, NKJV

📚 God’s Word is the Ultimate Discernment Tool

The Word of God is our measuring rod. If a teaching, vision, or practice contradicts Scripture or cannot be supported by it, reject it.

God is not vague. He has clearly warned against:

    • Divination and sorcery (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)

    • Consulting the dead (necromancy – Isaiah 8:19)

    • Mixture and syncretism (2 Corinthians 6:14-17)

No matter how “Christianized” a practice appears—if it originated in darkness, it cannot be sanctified.

    ✝️ Walking the Narrow Path

    Jesus said:

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad… But the gateway to life is very narrow, and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.”
    — Matthew 7:13–14, NLT

We live in a world—and often a church—that tells us to widen the path, to be more inclusive, tolerant, and open to “new revelations.” But this wide road leads to spiritual destruction.

Biblical Christianity requires discernment, courage, and a willingness to stand alone for truth.

    🛡️ Discernment Is Spiritual Warfare

Discerning spirits is not just about being cautious—it’s about protecting the flock, cleansing your temple, and advancing God’s Kingdom.

When occult practices are allowed into the church:

    • Demonic infiltration begins

    • People open gates to spiritual torment

    • Confusion replaces sound doctrine

    • Counterfeit experiences mimic the Holy Spirit

This is why discernment is war. And God calls us to fight the good fight of faith (1 Timothy 6:12) by wielding the sword of the Spirit—His Word.

🚫 Common Occult Practices Found in Churches Today:

    • Energy healing or “Christian Reiki”

    • Soaking prayer influenced by Eastern mysticism

    • Visualization as a form of “manifestation”

    • “Christian” yoga

    • Theophostic/Inner healing with hypnotic techniques

    • Centering prayer and contemplative prayer rooted in mysticism

If it’s not found in the Word, don’t do it.

🙏 Prayer of Repentance and Discernment

    Heavenly Father,
I repent for any agreement I have made with false teachings or occult practices. Forgive me for following experiences over Your Word. Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus. Teach me Your truth, and sharpen my discernment. I choose the narrow path. Holy Spirit, lead me into all truth and reveal what is not from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
