Halloween and the Forces of Darkness -

Halloween and the Forces of Darkness Why We Should Not Celebrate Halloween as Christians

By Teresa Morin, President of Touch of God Int’l Ministries of Healing and Deliverance

What’s the harm in Halloween? Costumes, candy, and fun traditions seem innocent, especially when children are involved. However, as believers in Jesus Christ, we are called to discern the spiritual roots of what we participate in—and Halloween is rooted in darkness.

John Ramirez, a former Satanist turned Christian evangelist, boldly calls Halloween “the most diabolical demonic holiday.” Why would a man once deep in occult rituals say such a thing? Because he’s seen behind the curtain. While society sees a playful night, the spiritual realm recognizes October 31st as one of Satan’s high holy days.

The Pagan and Occult Origins of Halloween

Halloween originated over 1,300 years ago in the British Isles. Its roots lie in paganism and witchcraft, specifically the Wiccan and Druid traditions. Wiccans—those practicing witchcraft—celebrated eight seasonal festivals (called sabats), and Halloween, or Samhain (pronounced “sow-in”), was the most important. On this night, it was believed that the barrier between the physical and spirit world was the thinnest, allowing spirits to roam freely.

Witches would gather in covens, casting spells, invoking spirits, and engaging in rituals that glorified nature gods and goddesses. Wicca claims to be a “nature religion,” but behind its charms and spells lies deep spiritual deception. Wiccans might not believe in Satan, but Satan certainly believes in manipulating them. The rituals they perform open doors to demonic entities whether they realize it or not.

Jack-o’-Lanterns, Costumes, and “Trick or Treat”

These Halloween staples are not random. Druids—Celtic pagan priests—used to roam villages on October 31st with demonic intentions. Dressed in white robes with sickles in hand, they demanded human offerings, often women or girls. Those who complied received a carved pumpkin with a candle made of human fat, placed at their door for protection. Those who resisted were cursed—sometimes fatally—using occult symbols.

“Trick or treat” wasn’t a harmless rhyme. It was a demand for a sacrifice. The “treat” was someone to give over to evil. The “trick” was a death curse on the household.

Even games like bobbing for apples originated from witchcraft rituals, with apples being sacred in Wiccan belief systems. These are not playful traditions but reenactments of pagan worship, sometimes unknowingly reenacted in churches and Christian homes.

Satan’s Strategy: Deception Through Normalization

Satan is a deceiver and father of lies (John 8:44). His goal is to normalize darkness, disguise sin as entertainment, and numb our discernment. By making Halloween fun and child-friendly, he cloaks his agenda in seemingly innocent practices. Even churches have been lured into celebrating Halloween under the guise of “harvest festivals” or “alternative parties,” forgetting the scriptural command to “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness” (Ephesians 5:11).

Former Satanists testify that Halloween is when rituals are performed, sacrifices are made, and demonic assignments are released—especially targeting children. Participating in Halloween—even passively—gives the enemy a legal right to influence your home, family, and future.

Halloween in the Light of Scripture

God’s Word clearly warns us against participation in occult practices:

  • Deuteronomy 18:10-12 (NKJV): “There shall not be found among you... one who practices witchcraft... or a medium... For all who do these things are an abomination to the Lord.”

  • Galatians 5:19-21 includes sorcery as one of the “works of the flesh” that exclude people from inheriting the Kingdom of God.

  • Revelation 21:8 states that “the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers... shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.”

As Christians, we are called to live holy and set apart, not blend with the world. Halloween is not a harmless holiday—it’s a spiritually charged event with deep demonic roots.

Don’t Open the Door to Darkness

Even if your participation seems lighthearted—like wearing a cute costume or handing out candy—understand that Halloween was designed to honor the dead, invoke spirits, and worship false gods. These are abominations to God.

Many believers unknowingly allow spiritual oppression into their lives through open doors like Halloween. If you’ve celebrated it in the past, repent, renounce any participation in occult practices, and shut the door to the enemy through prayer and deliverance.

Should Chrisans Celebrate Halloween?

Halloween is a day celebrated worldwide when people dress up in costumes, collect candy from neighbors, and have parties, but do you ever think about the origins of Halloween? Most people don't think twice about participating in it, saying, "It's all in fun" or "It's not evil to me", but is this so-called Halloween evening really so innocent?
